“Celebrating Retirement”

★★★★★

Lovely presentation box to celebrate my retirement. So many experiences to choose from and eventually settled on an Orient Express Train Trip. Having registered on line the regular e mails helped me to make my decision.
The trip itself was fantastic. Really well organised check in at Victoria and very smart personable staff throughout the day contributed to the brilliant day.
We were shown to our very comfortable seats and the bellinis were a lovely way to start the trip. Breakfast was superb, the fresh fruit cocktail really set off the taste buds, followed by a beautiful warm roll and fluffy scrambled eggs and chives served with smoked salmon mushrooms, toasted crumpet and caviar. The coffee was a welcome accompaniment and the steward kept our cups topped up throughout the journey to Folkestone. The light fruit sponge and cream melted in the mouth.
Our arrival in Folkestone was welcomed by a local rag time jazz band which added to the celebratory atmosphere of the day. Coaches were laid on for those travelling on to Venice (not us unfortunately) and we were transported to the Leas in Folkestone where a tour guide regaled us with observations of interest and historical titbits. The 2 hours flew by and we did manage to walk the upper level of the promenade and use the leas lift down to the lower level for a walk on the beach.
The coach transported us back to another lively welcome from the rag time jazz band and then it was time for sparkling wine and a delightful tea. A variety of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries were served with clotted cream and copious amounts of tea.
The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble for them and certainly made the day very special. The only downside to the day was the fact the gifts I wanted were not available and cannot be bought on line. The brochures provided on the day will serve as a momento of the day instead.
If you're looking for a special gift I can thoroughly recommend a trip on the Orient Express, and if you can't decide then the Red Letter Day experience will certainly help you decide.
