KingstonHanley186's review of Connells Estate Agents

“St Albans bunch of charlatans ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KingstonHanley186 on 12/09/2014

The estate agent that wanted us to pay for the privilege of hearing about property they were selling before anyone else

The estate agent that insisted we see their mortgage advisor before they'd entertain our offer for a house despite us not wanting to see him, even with a dazzling £1000 off the purchase price the mortgage advisor couldn't find me a mortgage as cheap as the one I found myself and the £1000 off would have been quickly swallowed up by extra payments

Whilst in their office seeing the mortgage advisor we didn't want to see I noticed on their whiteboard the words "always overvalue" so assisting in the inflated market we currently see

However they couldn't be bothered to call the owner of the house we were looking to buy, probably because they thought they could get more - offered £250K for a house on the market for £265K, and kept getting fobbed off so we brought somewhere else and I had a look on zoopla a few months later to see the house was sold for £230K

I am the director for St. Albans Connells and I would like to mark this REVIEW as FALSE.
1. Connells do not have a scheme that provides £1000 off a price!
2. Their is NO SUCH notice board in the office stating that staff she overvalue properties, in fact their is NO NOTICE board at all, we are not a newsagents and this message would certainly NOT be something that we would do!
3. There are NO HOUSES IN ST. ALBANS FOR £265,000, Again evidence of assertions, certainly £230,000 would hardly buy a one bedroom flat in St. Albans
I CHALLENGE THE PERSON WHO HAS WRITTEN THIS EMAIL TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY TO DISCUSS AND WOULD WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ANY CONCERNS THAT THEY MAY HAVE!!!

Yes they do offer £1,000 off and when you say no they won't accept your offer even when you offer the full asking price. This is what happened to me in the Basingstoke branch. Cannot believe they are still trading, would never use Connells to sell my property even if it was free.

This was in August 2012 and this was property, my apoligies it sold for £240K not £230K but still £10K lower than our offer that was never relayed to the vendor

The office was the Marshalswick one and the back room was where they do the mortage interviews (the one we didn't want) and on the wall was what was obviously the result of a training day and on it was 'always overvalue' and I have first hand experiance of this as you valued our property at more that the other 3 estate agents did

And as you can see below you do have this scheme, we were told that buying a mortgage through their mortage man would give us £1000 off the asking price, maybe the mortgage broker pays it because they offer such bad rates

If you would like me to repeat this in an e-mail then leave your address here

I would like to point out I found your town centre branch very helpful but the Marshalswick branch was full of wide boys
