“Mediocre overall”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/02/2017

Fastmail has now canned free accounts effective 31 July 2017. Mine was a grandfathered-in operamail account and I was assured by the Fastmail team that I could continue to use it. It was used for a niche purpose and was not my primary email account. Already signed up elsewhere for a replacement. There are definitely better alternatives to be had, with more quota and more features. Received a fair amount of spam over the years (perhaps a way of "persuading" me to cancel the free account?)

“Hacked several times”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Deangelob21 on 29/01/2017

Ive been hacked on my fastmail account although constantly changing passwords. Hacker also hacked my back up fastmail email accountv. I looked at my login history and saw access from computers all around Australia. Told fastmail team, they did nothing. Hacker changed my password and now Ive lost all my files of 10 years although I had advanced security. Gmail is superior

“Fastmail: good mailbox but poor support”

★★★☆☆

written by Kiddzy116 on 01/11/2016

Fastmail is good ...when working. I like the security and respect of some privacy, that is why I accept to pay for it. But you will quickly learn than paid service does not men good support. Support is one of the worst you could find; Slow, bad explanation. You better spend lot of time to make it work correctly on your device. Good point is that when it is set,, it will work wel and great... If you change your password, by a new device: problem of setting will be back. Why don't they offer better support or better standard explanation, Mystère...

“Decent service but overpriced for my needs”

★★★☆☆

written by Tristianj275 on 11/06/2015

I've been on FastMail for over 10 years and it's always been a competent service with very little downtime. I paid a one-off fee for lifetime account many years ago which has served me well, but with only a 16MB mailbox which was never increased, it certainly won't last my life. No complaints there, it was good value. FastMail don't provide free accounts any more and I'm not convinced the paid options are good value now. Brining my own domain into FastMail starts at $40/year and I know there are better options for me. If you're happy with their domain names, the starter package isn't a bad (private) alternative to the gmail type free services out there.

Fastmail was initially good but then it kept suspending my account for not be used, that was alright because it could be re-activated after a while but now it has taken a turn for the worst without any warning it has close my account and asking me to pay to re-activate it. they are looking to make a profit from people sending emails. why... gmail, yahoo, outlook, are all free and much better services without as much spam.

I do not understand this review. This user does not seem to understand the terms and conditions which are clearly set out by Fastmail.
I do not find Gmail or Outlook superior. But this might be more subjective.

“Spam protection is extremely poor in the free version”

★★☆☆☆

written by wiegerw on 08/05/2014

For many years I have used the free version of FastMail. It has always been fast and reliable. However, since a few months the spam protection filter seems to be removed. Every day 20+ spam messages pop up that even the most basic spam filter would be able to detect. This makes the free FastMail accounts completely unusable. So unless you're willing to pay I would not recommend FastMail.

“Only if you find Spam tasty”

Unless you upgrade to a paid version this is awful. 95%+ of email received is spam and delete as spam does nothing as same spammers keep showing up Don't waste your time.

“Simple/Fast/No clutter”

★★★★★

written by on 16/07/2013

If you are overwhelmed by the clutter of Gmail and Yahoo, this is for you. No chats, no circles, no friends, no maps, no Youtube, no news, no blogs, no shopping. No anything, JUST EMAIL. Perfect. And if you don't and ads, it's only $5 a YEAR. That's worth it!

“FastMail. One of the best and most flexible email...”

★★★★★

written by IrishMouse on 25/05/2013

You get an enormous amount of services when you have a Fastmail account. One of the things I like a lot is the ability to send email as if from other addresses that I own. I have purchased some domains with forwarding only, so I must have a site I can use to write from these addresses. Fastmail also allows a tremendous amount of aliases at their various addresses, so it is possible to be, for example, John@ many different addresses, or to have one for friends, one for business, one for commerce. Their reliability is top-notch. I have been with them for years and never remember a down time, which is pretty amazing. If there was one it was literally only minutes long. The pricing is flexible too, depending on how much storage you might need. I am always surprised at people who moan about free services shutting them out when they have not been used. That is what happens with FREE, but for very little money you can get an account which has no login requirements. You really can't go wrong with this service!

“Absolutely the best service.... Highly recommended. ”

written by on 15/02/2013

I've used independent email services for years. I have used fastmail.fm for the past 3 years -- This is the best email service that I have used. I can't give them enough praise. I rarely get spam and the online interface is great. I use it on an android phone, outlook, and mac mail. It works flawlessly... If you are looking for an email service get this one..

“Fastmail deserve all they get”

★☆☆☆☆

written by wishiwasnthere on 25/01/2013

I tried out a Fastmail free account years ago but it was so ugly and clunky I never used it as my main account, only as a backup account that I used as a redirect archive account and for some website memberships. Every so often they would warn me that it might be closed if I hadn't used it recently enough, so I would revisit it. Now without any warning they have closed it down because they have stopped free accounts. I have lost all my archives and the passwords to some websites where information was stored like my walkjogrun routes. I get all the stuff about free accounts, but actually gmail is way better despite what some of the reviewers say, I have several accounts that sync beautifully with everything, and have never had problems with any of them. Better interface and functionality and costs nothing. Why anyone would pay for Fastmail defeats me. And not letting people know when they close down accounts is just contemptuous of the very same users that doubtless they used as figures in their business plans. As an email provider it is no loss, but they have put me and I would guess many others to a considerable amount of inconvenience. I sincerely hope that their business goes down the pan as it deserves.

You're a dumb ass for relying on a free account which you admit to not logging into very often to archive things that are important to you.

“Best Mail Service Out There...”

★★★★★

written by on 06/11/2012

I've used Fastmail for over 5 years now and it is still the best email service out there. Yeah, it's not free, but it isn't expensive either. You get a great level of control over your mail -- technical control that the likes of Yahoo, GMail, AOL, and Hotmail/LiveMail simply do not give you. Their new interface is also much friendlier and works more like a modern webmail interface -- the old interface was ugly, but functional and it desperately needed this makeover. Anyway: Great product, no complaints!

“Fastmail is 'improving' itself into the ground”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 31/10/2012

I'm not sure if Opera has too much money to spend or coders just have too much time on their hands, but either way Fastmail is quickly improving itself out of it's long held 1st Place. I've been with them for over a decade and have had nothing but good to say about them, up until they decided to discontinue the Classic User Interface some time ago. Now, today was about the last straw. The rolled out a 10 month long Beta exercise as the Main New/Improved Interface. Gone is much we were accustomed to seeing and using. Of course all this has stirred up a huge complaint on their support forum, but I don't have much hope of Opera actually listening to what folks are saying they WANT. Exactly what they PAID for: A stable, unchanging platform they can grow accustomed to and be efficient with. In light of all that, I can no longer recommend them as an email provider...at all. I know, if I knew what was going to happen to Fastmail once Opera bought them out, I would have started shopping for another email provider long ago. Better late, than never though!

Could not agree more! The new Fastmail removed so many of its valued assets that you might as well use one of the free providers.

Completely agree! I have used them for many years, and am now looking for an alternative that allows me to have several different email addresses in one email program. Suggestions?

“A great service”

★★★★★

written by on 15/04/2012

Over the years I have had (and still have) a fair few emaiol accounts with different providers for different purposes. The one constant for me continues to be that Fastmail is my rocksolid provider for my main personal account. Not only does it give me a reliable and flexible email service, but I have one of the paid plans and for not much dollar outlay I also am able to host my own domain and emails off it too. At different times I've had to contact support with a query, and I've been really impressed with the responsive follow up. For only a little bit of money I know I have a great service that doesn't have big brother google getting more of my personal data. Use it!

I just signed up, and so far so good. The site below helped me as well I like this part: With the free providers, You are a commodity. Your information is bought and sold and your emails are scanned to allow advertising. Commodity: An article of trade or commerce In return for your information and advertising support you are offered an email service, which we all would agree looks and works good. But think about this, who is the customer? Is it you or is it the advertiser? http://www.fastmailreview.com/
