“Courier not booked properly, but otherwise great service!”

Written on: 17/04/2013 by Stu87

Overall I was very happy with the service from mac4cash! I was quoted £250 for my old macbook, which is a lot more than anywhere else would give me, even eBay. I had a slight problem at first however as I did not receive a confirmation e-mail of my order and the courier did not show up on the day I booked it for. It turns out the courier hadn't been booked to come, I had to ring up and re-arrange this for the next day. A small inconvenience, but it was sorted quickly. After this I tracked... (read more)

Mac4cash bought my white MacBook from me for £211. A good return on a 5 year old machine so I am happy. Generally the transaction went well, email updates etc but payment was almost 3 weeks. I was hoping for it sooner but the site does mention it can take up to 3 weeks. All in all a good service which I would use again and recommend to anyone. (read more)

“a good service”

I have now sold more than 6 imacs to mac4cash. Firstly I sold an imac last year and the process was slow but I was offered a very good price by email 2 days after sending in my initial request. The most recent transactions have all be much quicker with an instant quote and faster turnaround of the payment. The prices I have been paid are excellent and the service has been faultless so I highly recommend this company. (read more)

“A failed transaction and a broken mac”

Written on: 02/03/2013

PLEASE, PLEASE, do not use this service, here is my experience. I was quoted £550 for my mac, i was happy with this, and I sent it in. 2 weeks later i received an e-mail saying they could only pay me £250, I was stupidly lazy and agreed to this. 3 weeks later, no cheque, no e-mail, nothing, so I ask for my mac back. 2 weeks later, they charge me £20 to have it sent back. Hi there, I am very sorry that you fell that we have 'mugged you off' but in truth we tested your machine and found several faults so we had to change our quotation.

It seems that somebody else had 'mugged you off' before we even laid hands on your machine as it had been opened up by somebody else previously.

“Traded in my iPad for the best price”

Written on: 13/02/2013 by PhilDJ

I get a new ipad everytime they bring one out! Quite an expensive and maybe pointless habit but i really love the ipad. Until i found mac4cash i would just sell the old ipads on the cheap to my family or friends. This time I sold my ipad 3 to mac4cash for £370 so I now have the best ipad you can buy and only paid £200 towards it. The cheque from mac4cash took a while to arrive but apparently they are very busy and processing takes a while. I'm not surprised as the quote i got was better... (read more)

I have investigated this review as we take bad reviews seriously. You were customer number 50137 . You're laptop was re quoted within 3 days of booking in due to the unit not being of the grade claimed. We
then wait for the customer to contact us after the automatic email is sent. This is the part that has shocked me you have stated that you rang 7 times. In our system that logs calls from the account holder we only have 1 on the 3rd accepting the quote. I apologies if something has gone wrong as its normally a fool proof system. We process over 800 units per month so generally we have to be tight with our process. You're particular unit was at the lowest end of our buy back we average at around £650-£800 per unit we haven't got any reason to hold back £200 as this ends in bad reviews. As for you're further comments about the reviews we send out batches of cheques so most people get there cheques around the same time that might go toward explaining you're theory's on our reviews. We have this review section on our site in plain view our users can write comments easily if they are happy or have an issue we are confident of our service hence our choice to add this box.

Your system is that foolproof, that you have got the wrong number. I was 50138. I have finally got my cheque, which is supposedly the "3rd" cheque you have sent due to them being "lost in the post". What's funny about this is that even though it was the "3rd" cheque you've sent, it was the first time I had received an email saying 'the status of my quotation has been changed to "cheque issued"'. Why didn't I receive this email the first or second time you supposedly sent a cheque?

Also with regards to me contacting you accepting the quote, I received the new quote on 31 October 2012 at 11:31:09, and I replied accepting the quote on 31 October 2012 at 11:38:03. I have the emails.

The system only gets updated with cheque issued once the quote has been accepted. We don't have any emails on our system from you or any record of 7 phone calls. The reason it sat as requoted is that we didn't have any contact from you.

So you're saying I never rang or emailed? Why would I not be in touch until January, when I wanted the money to help over christmas. And I hardly have trust in your phone log system, when your number goes through to someone on the desk at your other company, Portable Universe.

All I'm saying is it took multiple phone calls to get hold of the money, over 2 months after giving you the laptop. I was told my cheque was lost twice. Why would you tell me this? Surely your foolproof system should have told who over was taking (and supposedly logging) the phone call that I supposedly hadn't accepted the offer? Just face it, nobody had a clue what was happening whenever I rang. It may be a one off case and you're good the other 99% of the time, but I've left this review because of how much of a frustrating process it was.

“I intended to sell my macbook pro to them for a quote...”

I intended to sell my macbook pro to them for a quote of £300. But they came back to me after 3 weeks claiming that my laptop was in bad condition, both the video card and mother board have serious flaws and gave me a new quote of £50. Hi. Sorry you feel this way. I am simply going to reiterate the terms and conditions which you agreed to upon accepting the quote. In the event that we discover a fault or faults with your machine we will re-quote in relation to the cost of us repairing the machine for re-sale.

We buy hundreds of machines every month through Mac4Cash and each has to be tested using the Apple Hardware Test and other methods of testing for at least 72 hours. This can often lead to quite a long queue of machines to be tested leading to longer waits for payment, that is why we pay more than our competitors.

The Apple Hardware Test often finds errors which describes the fault and we have no choice but to reduce our offer price. Also the machine in question was 5 years old which leaves even more possibility for faults and the logic board and video faults will cost at the very least £250 to repair, please feel free to check that out.

Also with regards to the £38 return fee, this is essential as we have had to send a large crate to collect your machine in the first place, then we have to spend time testing the machine. And then we must send it back all at a cost to us. If we just sent machines back for free then we would unfortunately lose a lot of money.

In the terms and conditions it does specify quite clearly that any faults with the machine must be described using the grading system so that we have good faith between the customer and us. If there are faults we simply cannot pay the original quote amount for a faultless machine as this is a business.

As you say, you have the machine back now anyway, at no cost to yourself as a gesture of good will. Unfortunately a 1 star review has appeared but I am sure others will read both sides of the situation and understand that this really is a non issue.
