“A new phone”

★☆☆☆☆

written by febutler on 17/05/2016

I recently went to CEX to invest in what will probably be the biggest hi-light of my life this year - a new phone. Because I'm no millionaire, I decided to move from the IPhone 4 to the 5s. After leaving the shop I was buzzing, I couldn't wait to set it up but, when I did... The screen didn't work :( . Because I work from 7.30-7.30 I couldn't make it into Camden during shop hours so I went the following weekend where they exchanged it for another phone. I was charged an extra £20 because it was an "A grade" phone, the only difference between them was the screen and the second came with a box (which I wasn't given). Anyway, still excited, I did the wholeee set up again and got everything sorted, including bumble (which I hadn't used before). Anyway, 3 days later... I cant download any more apps. Which is so annoying because I had just heard about Happn, and was keen to find out what the excitement was about - when I went into CEX they told me I'd have to leave my phone in the shop for 48 hours, but having grown up in this day and age, 20 minutes without a phone and i'm slightly lost for things to do. No temporary replacement... How am I meant to wake up in the morning if I dont have an alarm?!? Not only that, but I've swiped all the good'ns on bumble and I'm probably going to end up loosing them. I had told my dad to get a second hand phone, but I'll be taking that recommendation back now. Thank you for the bad experience, I wont be doing it again. Also apologies to the staff who had to deal with me when I was cross.

Illawarrian's Response to febutler's Review

Exactly the same here in Australia, where they've exported their business model. The engineering student from Nepal who's staying with me had a horrible experience and I had to deal with it as under stress his English isn't the best. :-( There is now a group you can join on Facebook, 'Stand up to CEX bullies', where you can get encouragement and advice on the occasions when their service isn't up to par, which is nearly always.
