“Do not use this Company EVER”

Each year at the end of my fixed term I look for a better deal with energy suppliers. OVO were offering a really good deal for dual tariff at £126.00 (Feb 2013). After 6 months I received an email stating that my bills were to be increased to £186.00 a month! I complained about this stating that I was a on FIXED TERM agreed contract and how they had reached this conclusion that my energy consumption had increased to £60.00 a month (bearing in mind this was in the Summer). “AVOID THESE CLOWNS”

I took these jokers on because they quoted me what worked out at about £58 a month fixed for dual fuel, which they charged me for the first few months and then put it up to £131!! because they "made a mistake" ("Oooops! They said, like it was a friend spilling a bit of coffee on my rug). Moved into my property on the 1st Nov 2014, didn't see a bill for five months despite repeated calls, when I did finally get one through the door it was astronomical.. after almost an hour on the phone the girl on the other end realised that good old OVO had used the previous tenants opening reads as my own... adding 6 months of their usage to my bill.. thought it was all sorted.. not so.. a week later another crazy bill.. phoned up again, and I've been on the phone for half an hour so far with… Read Full Review

“Poor Customer Service!”

Ovo were a cheap supplier so I moved there been there a few years back. They consciously overcharge customers so you end up in credit for which they pay the customer interest. My payments mounted up to the point where I was £400+ in credit and I asked for a refund, they refused to refund me all and stated that I had to be two months in credit? They sent me a refund and over the next year quickly ended up again £480 in credit. I switched suppliers and they have so far taken 8 weeks to process… Read Full Review

Further to my review, Ovo complaints have responded and have agreed to refund my money within 24 hours? Should you have an issue with Ovo fill in the complaints form on their website. I was contacted twice within 12 hours and my problem was resolved, well done!

“Overcharging and mis-leading”

No escalation process for complaints. Either put up or shut up - or go through the lengthy process of contacting OFGEM. What could be resolved in two minutes generally takes two hours. Missing paperwork, no apologies and rude staff all add up to a very poor experience. Check the OVO annual complaints report - the majority cannot be resolved immediately or within 24 hours. I had the exact same problem. The Ombudsman Services will not take on a complaint with an energy company unless the complaint has reached a "deadlock". I tried to explain to Ombudsman Services that it was impossible to reach "deadlock" with OVO because (as you pointed out) they don't have an escalation process, in fact they don't have any kind of structured complaints process in place whatsoever. I gave up with Ombudsman Services in the end but a bad review on this website soon got OVO sorted out. Oh, you're right about another thing, they do overcharge too.

“A catalog of mistakes ”

The switch over has been dreadful and numerous phone calls. Now in dispute over a nearly £3000 bill for gas . Now having to send pictures of Meter and have to send again as it has been implied that I have had the Meter changed. “Spent so much time on calls to this company”

I decided in December 2014 to look around for a new deal on my electric. It was after this the problems started, trying to get a final bill proved to be one step too far for ovo. Wow cannot believe the neg views about OVO on here because having been with awful companies like NPOWER and eon in the past OVO are in a different league. Where did you get this £350 figure? If that's what OVO told you then you're a little naïve for believing them. With Ecotricity I was paying around £1.40 a day on my electric, with OVO it was more like £2.50. I'm sure you'll find out what OVO are like soon enough.

since may 2014 , not one problem to mention, very smooth transition and it does what it says on the tin. All done online, easy . would recommend. Very satisfied. Never needed customer service since moving over apart from very beginning but that was sorted very efficiently. overall very happy and can't complain. “Customer service returns - hooray”

We spent over 20 years with British Gas at various properties. 3 years ago a comparison showed we could get a better deal with OVO so we switched but BG performed abysmally once they knew we were switching. I'd never go back. The OVO deals have been very competitive - in the top 3 on price - AND credit balances pay 3 per cent interest so you don't feel they're gaining from your overpayments. “Left cold and hungry”

When I transferred to Ovo I was promised a new smart meter, after six months of complaining I finally recieved a phone call to say that they would fit the meter the next day, I had credit on my old pre-payment meters. I was told by the engineer that the credit would transfer to my new smart meter within half an hour, It didn't so I called and was told that it would transfer the next morning, it didn't, when I called again I was told that I should have let the credit run down on my old meters… Read Full Review

Forwarded details and account number, still told there is nothing that can be done to help and it will take four to six weeks before I can have my money back. So it seems that actually you dont care if we are left without gas or electricity after all.

I joined ovo energy in November 2014 & up to now I still have not had my meter fitted . I've had two appointments & the 1st one they never turned up . As I took a day from my work hoiladay I was not very happy . I will be receiving 42 pound credit when I finally get my meter fitted . We’re really sad to hear that your prepayment meter wasn’t programmed correctly and that this resulted in you ending up in debt. If you are concerned that there is a problem with your meter, we’ll be happy to help with this.

If you also feel that you are spending too much money on a weekly basis, we can take a look at your consumption and try and help you figure out where most of your energy is going. Additionally, in order to have a PAYG online account, you must have requested to be switched over to PAYG+. “Great customer service and cheap”

I've had no trouble with them and the price is really good, although not the absolute cheapest. The customer service has always been very quick and friendly. They have time to talk to you and understand any problems you may have (i.e. we had an estate agent who gave the wrong reading at the beginning, causing no end of problems with the handover from N-Power, who were atrocious. Put ten pound on my prepayment card took seven for debt (I'm not in debt with anyone) and they claim it's a standing charge because I went on emergency 70% taken because I used emergency and that's not including paying the emergency back! Billing is a farce, gave meter readings only to have them guestimate a number a few days later. Told I must have given too low a reading!!!! Excuse me No one was living in the house at the time, I was staying with friends & husband was dying in hospital. “Incompetent Fools”

I have had nothing but trouble from the start. First they forget to install the gas meter. They refused to transfer the credit from my old electric meter onto my new electric meter. I've had credit get inexplicably wiped from my account. The staff haven't got a clue. Their tarrif is not as low as they claim, in fact it's quite pricey. They're appalling at handling complaints. And to add insult to injury, when you leave Ovo they will go out of their way to make the switchover as difficult as possible. They are without doubt the nastiest energy company around. While I am waiting to have a basic meter reinstalled by my new energy provider they just cut me off of prepayment, leaving me without a PAYG plan. No other energy provider does this, in fact they all do everything they can to make the switchover run smoothly but not OVO, they're just spiteful. Nasty little critters who carry out childish little acts of tit-for-tat as a means of punishing customers for leaving. Avoid like that proverbial plague.

So to cap off what OVO is like:

* Terrible service
* High prices
* Untrustworthy accounting (credit mysteriously vanishing)
* Difficult or downright unfair policies/T&Qs
* Incompetent staff
* Bad attitude (they'll fine you for a rainy day if they could)
* Nasty retaliatory behaviour when you leave them.

Nasty! Nasty! Nasty!
