“Worse than Vodafone!”

Don't ever switch to OVO Energy, they are worse than Vodafone's customer service! Had our dual fuel with them. Went to switch which the electricity went smoothly but 8 months later and constant chasing, our gas finally switched. OVO have since been taking our direct debit despite us not being a customer and now they have £957 of our money! Where do I start this as got to be the worst energy company I have been with ovo energy.Firstly I am disappointed with the none call centre at the weekend no emergency contact number that is correct which they give on their website.The number is for another company which has nothing to do with them at all.We have 2 year old girl and another daughter with severe asthma and we have had to wait till the morning to get through to talk to them to fix our pay as you go gas meter a full weekend… Read Full Review

“Misleading advertising”

I consider that i was persuaded to switch to Ovo on the basis of misleading advertising. I switched to Ovo specifically because of the online top-up facility for pay as you go customers. When the time came to install the smart meter which facilitates this, i was then informed that my electricity meter is too high from the ground and that this will cost at least £79 to rectify. “Disappointed ”

Joined OVO three months ago and provided my meter readings for gas and electricity. Although the electricity reading was sent through to my previous supplier OVO failed to send the reading for gas. I was in considerable credit with my previous supplier, Atlantic, and quickly received a refund for electricity. When asked why the gas reading wasn't sent across OVO told me they wanted to see three months reading to check the figures were accurate. Me and my partner where switched to the company even though we never agreed the prices you have to pay are appalling me and my partner have to top up our card £35 a week sometimes even more and we only live in a 2 bedroomed flat and are on benefits. When our son was in hospital for a week there was nothing being used and still a £20 top up whent , the staff are rude on the phone and I spoke to a manager and he said he will refund us our money and we are still waiting. I switched to OVO in May 2015 after reading Martin's Money Tips and received my welcome email quite soon after the switch. I was unable to book an engineer to fit the smartmeter online so ended up having to call customer services. After over 30 minutes waiting on the line they told me that they hadn't an available appointment to fit the new meter but would get back to me as soon as they had an engineer available. I received a leaflet in the post recommending I switch to Ovo energy. Sounded interesting as they "do not charge exit fees". So I went onto their website and "got a quote". I should add that most energy comparison sites mislead you about savings - they will always note your current tariff then look forward to when it ends then compare their tariff to your current suppliers "standard" tariff and give you some wonderful savings - completely artificial and misleading. can't understand all the bad reviews?! I've been with them 3 years now and about to renew - never a problem. I had a call from uswitch and ovo sounded amazing. It would save me hundreds over the year and the massive selling point was that I could top up from home with the app and see how much credit I had without having to venture outside to the separate meters. It has been a continuing nightmare for a 70 year old guy trying to talk to ovo energy about a number of issues. There doesnt seem to be any one website where you can go to deal with the issues. Joined OVO because they were recommended by Which? Communication is very poor with no replies to emails. 25 year old meter replaced by them for a substantial sum and then asked me to send a photograph of the meter. Asked OVO if this was a joke but no response. Was informed some time later that without the photograph correct payment of the account would be delayed. Prices initially cheaper than other suppliers but now have not kept in line with others. My main reason for leaving was the poor customer service and slow replies, varying direct debit arrangements over the winter when they increased it knowing I would then be in credit by some amount in the summer - they do pay interest at 3% but I would rather have the money in my account. I have spent endless hours checking review sites and savings with energy suppliers. I wanted to switch to OVO but before I did so, decided to check out the customer service. Woeful, non-existent. Should you email Ovo you will receive this message. "We are currently receiving a high volume of Emails. We very much appreciate your patience and don't worry, we will respond to you within 48 hours." Which seems standard practice for Ovo. If you are lucky you may get a response within 48 hours but in my experience I have had nothing. If you phone you are guaranteed a 15-20 minute wait. Back in 2013 tenants of our house left and we sold up. We then received a bill for one months gas for £118 from Ovo for the house whilst it was empty. I had never opened an account with Ovo and called them to explain their mistake. I was informed that they'd be in touch if the matter needed further attention. Ovo were supposed to install my Smart electric and gas meters in June, electric meter was duly installed but engineer said he was not qualified to install the gas meter as it was a "non-standard fitting". Engineer said Ovo would be in touch to arrange a further date for installation of the gas meter by a qualified engineer.
