I was tricked into taking electric supply by a person claiming to be an electric meter reader when we moved into our new premises. He said he would ask Opus to contact us as 'they are the cheapest' - little did I realise at the time he was a third party broker and was paid a commission by Opus to get customers. I then agreed a contract with Opus verbally (they record calls) on the understanding they were the cheapest. Totally misled from start to finish and the bills are double what they should be. Opus won't agree to cancel my contract or move me to a better tariff. I have taken up with the Ombudsman. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY.

Had the same problem 2 years ago with Opus was duped in the same manner by Active energy direct a 3rd party Broker. Did you ask Opus for a copy of the conversation when you were discussing the contract over the phone, as they only record certain parts of it as I found out when they sent me a copy of the recorded conversation, Did you ask them if this was the cheapest supply available. If they avoided this question, but it can be clearly heard on the recording then you have a case for the ombudsman. I eventually contacted costguard and they looked for the cheapest rate on the market we confronted Opus with this and they altered there rates accordingly.

P.s. do you have problems getting them to read your meter is your bill always estimated

Only had one bill and it was estimated, however the actual bill would have been slightly higher. Have compared it and it is double the amount of what other providers are quoting. A recording of the verbal agreement is apparently on the way to us. Will check the transcript (if it arrives). When I spoke to them oddly enough they did refuse to answer the question as to whether they have cheaper tariffs. Totally misleading and will get out of this contract one way or another!

most corrupt firm ever we have the house of commons involved now lets all get together and get opus energy shut down they destroyrd our business 13 months ago were still fighting them
