Appalling customer service. I have tried for a year to get a correct final bill after repeatedly being issued one which is evidently wrong. The problem in theory is simple to sort. My case was accepted by the energy ombudsman and following their report the problem still continues. I have emailed again to co-op and have had no response in a week. “I WOULD NOT RECOMEND CO-OP ENERGY TO AN ENEMY”

The co-operative movement is close to my heart so i have patiently stuck with them for three years now despite the problems. I have been accused by customer service staff of "meter tampering" over the phone and have seen my account being altered up and down like a yoyo. I have hadover two thousand pounds removed from my account where they have messed up meter readings and charged me the wrong tariff. We switched to co-op when we bought our house 2 years ago. We didn't actually initially intend to, but due to a lot of confusion and break down in communication between our existing supplier and the previous house owner (who used Co-op), we gave up and just went with the Co-op for the gas (for some reason, the electricity go switched fine?!?). You have my sympathy ! They are a dreadful company. I left them almost two years ago but recently they sent me a bill for several hundred pounds, saying they had previously made mistakes. Incredible !

“Worst in the world”

As a long term believer in the Co-op, I switched from Npower to Co-op Energy in April 2012, and matters proceeded satisfactorily until March 2015 when Co-op Energy introduced a completely revised billing "system". “Still taking money after switch”

After 9 months of no bill visibility which I reckon cost me £300 I got through on phone to find I owed them rather a lot.... I paid outstanding monies and switched to EDF. Switch confirmed and balance bill received from Coop for 76 pence on basis of final readings. They have taken £135 by direct debit. Update - Contacted by Coop through this page but they also responded to a query on their system - I have pursued this.

They acknowledged that previous requested refund of payment they took post-switch had not been actioned and said that this and a goodwill payment of £30 would be with me by CHAPS within 48 hours.

You guessed it - 48 hours passed - I contacted them again and they came back ignoring the refund and saying that it would take up to 14 days for the good will payment.

Need I say anymore? - AVOID ...unless you enjoy going round in circles

17th January - still no goodwill payment as promised and no response to most recent email. Coop tried to contact me through this site but I felt I should continue as 'normal' ...and not allow them to target bad reviews... so I have carried on as a normal user with access to normal channels.

I am writing off the £30 now and ending the saga having had my wrongly taken payment returned.

FINAL words - any claims about ethical energy and 'member ownership' should be ignored set against the worst customer experience for any service I have used. DO NOT CONSIDER USING.

Next stage - phoned and asked where the money was... agent I spoke with blamed another agent for not auctioning and went off to speak with Supervisor.

She has now set it up again saying refund and goodwill payment will be with me by Tuesday 22nd - seriously, there is a significant call centre training issue lurking in the background here

The promised £30 for 'inconvenience' has never been received as at this date 9th January.

Need I say more - I've given up and will never deal with the Coop again.

“A nightmare”

I wish I could give minus 10 stars for this bunch of idiots. I changed from Co-operative energy in feb 2015, thought all was well until they took a direct debit from my account 2 months later. Since then I have tried emailing, ringing, tweeting to get this resolved. They are still charging for energy even though I am paying my currently supplier and are chasing me for 300, when they owe me 150. Customer service disappeared in 2015. This company has ditched customer service and developed a highly flawed new billing system. I have not had a bill since the start of the year - and it is now pretty much end of the year. They don't answer emails, they don't answer phones. Ive had a few dreadful energy companies in my time but this lot really are awful. None of their systems work, so it is a wonder that anyone sticks with them at all. Their online accounts systems don't actually work and their telephone service is laughable. All in all, simply appalling. Six months worth of prevarication, stupidity and downright lies! That was my experience of this shower, now gladly got shot of. The company changed my account number in the spring which led to chaos – inability to enter the meter reading electronically, phone lines engaged or cut off after five minutes of waiting, inaccurate statements. “Avoid! Still not recovered from botched systems update”

Co-operative Energy was perfectly fine, until they had an unbelievably poorly managed systems update. Both the online account system for the users and the internal system seem to be fatally flawed and appear near-unusable. The Switch to Co-op Energy was the worst move I have made, been having problems with them since April, They stopped their on-line payments portal back then and now it's near impossible to get through on the phone, their customers service reps are arrogant and unhelpful. Disgusting service, standard wait to speak to someone on the phone was over 1 hour, then told couldn't help as don't have access to the system and to take a message which could take up to a week to call back. Given incorrect information at all stages. Electricity swapped over but not Gas despite checking with them all was well and being assured both were being transferred. I had two accounts with The Cooperative Energy (home and holiday cottage). After a string of inaccurate bills caused by their new billing system, I changed to other suppliers in early April. Totally agree with your comment, since the new computer system I have had nothing but trouble with them also. They only take payments every other month now, totally unacceptable in the meantime the credit I have built up is slowly going down so no doubt they will put me monthly payments up soon by no fault of my own.
