I've been a drummer since xmas of 2005, which is around 6 or 7 years. I have tried many different sizes, tips and materials of sticks over this period, however i've always come back to the Vic Firth 5a's, these sticks are incredibly versatile, even though meant to be played in a jazz outfit, i use them heavily in an extreme rock/heavy metal outfit as a gigging drummer. these sticks i will admit aren't the best looking in the world (I prefer the physical appearance of Pro - Mark) however their feel, length and tip are the best, i recall one pair of sticks i bought 6 months ago lasted around 30 hours of intense giggig and practice, and usually many sticks would break after 10-15 hours use. Vic Firth 5A's are durable and have just the right amount of varnish applied to them, enough so that their not rough as hell but just enough so they dont slip out of your hand easily. Highly recommended to any drummer who is looking for a good pair of sticks.
