“Say no to Red Driving School”

Written on: 01/07/2012 by rsvp123 (1 review written)

I had booked initial 2 hr driving lesson with Red through phone. I had specifically requested for a driving instructor who is a DVLA approved driving instructor. I was assured by Red that all their instructors are highly trained and approved ADI. To my surprise, the instructor assigned to me was a licensed trainee. I had already informed that I was driving earlier for more than 5 years in India. Still, I was given introductory lessons for 2 hrs. I did drive for only 5 min in the total of 2 hrs. Absolutely shocking! Why shall I pay a full fee for being instructed by a trainee.I have now booked my subsequent lessons by another driving school who has provided me an approved driving instructor. My new instructor is very good and qualified. Will never recommend Red driving school to anyone.

Dear guest, my job is not to make you believe. You were lucky that you escaped with a good instructor. How will you feel if you are promised an ADI and is assigned a licensed trainee from Red Driving School. This forum is to share your experience and not to fight with each other. If you had a good experience, do share it, but you have no right to criticize other people experiences and comment. So, just shut up.

Hi rsvp123,
My name is Ian Clegg and I am an instructor with RED. I'm sorry to hear about your first experience with RED. Speaking from my own experience, I might add that anyone can tell me on their first lesson that they have had vast experience previously. Regardless of what a pupil tells me it would be bad practice and indeed unsafe to take things at face value. I agree with you that 5 minutes driving in a 2 hr lesson is not acceptable. I do however insist that at least 30-45 mins of that initial 2hr lesson starts with an introduction to the basics; controls of the car, introduction to moving off and stopping safely via pictures and demonstrations etc. Then and only then, would I allow my pupil to drive. After having assessed their driving to be of a safe, suitable standard, would we continue..
Prior to being a driving instructor, I was a paramedic. I studied for my Certificate in Education, which meant I had to teach whilst studying, and therefore not fully qualified as a teacher. All the new doctors in Casualities around the country have only done 3 years of their 5 to qualify and are treating patients. All of the university degree's in education have the students on placement before they are qualified.
I am a licenced trainee and feel that i am better qualified to teach pupils than a newly qualified ADI with no teaching experience. I have had an excellent grounding in instruction through an excellent RED instructor and hope to continue getting my pupils through their test.

Hello Mr Ian,

Great to see a detailed explanation from your end. But unfortunately you have given a one sided picture of your views. Can you please tell that Are student medical practitioners paid the same as professional doctors? Same applies for all professions that you have listed. If you are a trainee or a student, you do not deserve to be paid as a qualified doctor/instructor. Also, students/trainee are always under supervision of professionals. Red Driving should not have told me a lie that I will be given an ADI. Secondly, they should have not charged 26 GBP an hour for a trainee. They should be giving a discounted rates for trainees. There are lots of cheap driving schools who are run by trainees and they provide appropriate discounts and are transparent in their dealings.
On the other hand, Red Driving customer care executive says a lie to a prospective client, cheats them by charging full rate for a approved professional, and supplies a trainee who gives 5 min of driving experience within 2 hrs of money. What else left to say??

Don't you think that Red should provide cheaper discounted options for trainees. Instead of charging the rate of 26 pounds for ADI, they should have charged 10-15 pounds for trainees. There are lots of cheaper driving schools run by trainees who provide discounted rates and are transparent in their dealings.
On the other side, Red customer care executive says a lie to a prospective customer that all their instructors are ADI, secondly they cheat the customer by charging full rate of 26 pound an hour for a 5 min driving in 2hrs class by a trainee. What else to say??
