Akvass's review of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (Dreamcast)

“Nightmare or Posible Reality?”

★★★★☆

written by Akvass on 13/03/2012

This game as many know is the third part of the Resident Evil saga, launched near the Y2K (1999 - 2000), so right now an oldie or maybe a classic.
From the beginning Resident Evil was a game about one thing that defines one game genre: "SURVIVAL", and as the name implies "Resident Evil/Nemesis/Last Escape", this one was specially made to be enjoyed under surviving circumstances. Now, when I say -to be enjoyed-, I'm certainly talking about pushing the whole game into the kind of horror even grown ups can enjoy.

How can this happen?

1) Nice graphs for the time it was developed, good plot, nice movies, good soundtracks, good locations, etc.
1.1 Graphics - From mutilation, to decapitation and head explosions, detailed outfits for the characters (especially for Jill >_o).
1.2 Good plot - Genetic mutation more than Sci Fi, it is a reality, in the game an exaggerated reality but not by much specially when you know how governments act, how greedy corporations exist, and how amazing can be the nature (taking for example the non dying worm, just check the web man..)
1.3 Movies - Gore, blood, violence, death, in front of your eyes. (I love the first video when you start)
1.4 Soundtracks - I'm not going to say "perfection", the music just fits.
1.5 Good locations - Talking about reality.. what can be better than putting a modern city on fire with a virus that turns beauty into ugly, and ugly into "nemesis", a Nemesis that chases you all over the place..

2) The gameplay may be similar to the older games of the saga(Resident Evil 1 and 2), but there are some differences which needs to be specified.
2.1 Weapons - New weapons, New ammo, you can create your ammo with powder combinations and even make your own strategy trough the game like making more or better ammunition (not both), you can take the parts that nemesis drops and get new weapons (heavy mode).. so in the end this all makes your game more enjoyable but the first times not necessarily easier.
2.2 Difficulty - there are only 2: Light mode, and Heavy mode, the first one is easy, the other is hardest, but what is subject of fear is the "Nemesis", why??, cuz while you are trying to survive with few stuff you'll be forced to fight this monster almost every time, not only that, this thing never dies (unless of course someone launches him a nuke), this is a true Nemesis that revives and mutates (improves) after you waste all your ammo, and this thing turns uglier and uglier till the end.

Better than what it is in the Resident Evil 2 movie, huh?

Finally this game haves riddles, not really difficult ones in my opinion but makes the contrast that all games needs (not just killing, shooting, and killing)

So I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to know what Resident Evil is, cuz playing this game is better than just reading the Wikipedia.
You can enjoy this game more if you ignore the latest graphics, but if you can't just join me when asking for a HQ remake of this game.
