“Secondary glazing nightmare.”

Written on: 28/12/2011

In january they sent out two guys to install the two large panes and frames. It looked to be good until after they were gone when I opened the two installations. My actual bedroom window could not be opened at all because the frames stopped it. Both the top and bottom windows would not open. My living room window, top one, also would not open. The bedroom frames were about 5cm too wide ! The front frame was not too bad but needed planing or sanding to let the top window open. I contacted weatherseal. A supervisor came out, an ex-joiner, he said he was, and, wait for it: suggested shaving the frames of the actual windows ! I was dumfounded. He then said he would send a joiner round. This guy tried his best but ended up being unable to plane the top of the frame on the bedroom installation. He left it looking rather uneven and said he would have to do a complete re-installation.
By this time I myself had sanded down the living room frame with an awful lot of sanding and got the window to open. After over a month the joiner came back and tried to do the bedroom re-installation. it was a farce, the same as before. I then had to wait more months until he came back and re-installed again. This time it was more successful but the frame and the actual glazing were not over lapping enough on one side to offer good draughtproofing. I knew this although the guy was adamant it would be. I let him install it as it was now 9 months I had waited to get them properly fitted, I then called their company HQ and wrote to them to asking for compensation for the lack of draughtproofing. oh BTW, in the interim they sent a plasterer out as they had torn chunks out of the plaster in the removal prior to re-installing. I was told he was coming at such and such a time on such and such a day. He never appeared. i called weatherseal. They said he had been ringing my door. I said, no he had not. A few days later he did come and he said he had never been at my house ever before. He also said the supervisor was an idiot. Anyway, after complaining about the draughtproofing that same supervisor arrived one afternoon UNANNOUNCED, no telephone call, nothing, and brought a couple of rolls of draught excluder which he fitted in the bedroom installation, and asking me if I wanted to fit the front room frame . I just said give me it. He never even explained that this is what the original installers should have fitted until I challenged him.

That is not even the whole story, folks, Weatherseal are a joke. They use inefficient tradesmen who do not test their work. The measuring technicians likewise are inept and do not check if windows will open !

It took me ten months to get something like a satisfactory job done.

I would not go near them again with a bargepole !
