“Very poor”

written by Gowerpower on 12/06/2018

Very very poor company , took over a week to do a two day job , caused damage to my house that is still not finished , installed one door in the wrong place , smashed my outside security light and tried to replace with a cheep and nasty plastic one ( still not sorted two weeks on) Installation manager was asking for final payment on the first day even though only two windows removed and non replaced , he came back the day after wanting payment and the lad were going to be no where near finished. Jo in the office is good to his word but as for the rest we’ll all I can say is very poor. Product is good , I dout this will appear on ther web site

“Disgusting!!!!!”

written by Foster77 on 17/05/2018

Very very poor. From start to finish ( we still havent received a satisfactory outcome). Roof is leaking, builders not cleared up after themselves and waiting for them to finish off the job. Numerous attempts made to walkers asking them to sort after being hounded to sign the job off (under duress). Very upsetting experience which has caused stress and anxiety. Please think twice about going with this company

I would like to thank Walkers Windows for a first class installation of a first class product. Myself and my husband are over the moon with our new bi-fold doors with blinds inside the glass. We were impressed from start to finish. Your showroom is stunning, your sales staff so helpful and not pushy at all. Regards

“Very good windows, doors, and workmanship”

★★★★★

written by JUDY1954 on 25/06/2016

I am extremely pleased with both the quality of the windows and doors, and the quality of the workmanship. The workers did a top quality job from start to finish. They were very professional and they fit the windows and doors perfectly. I dealt with the sales team, and they were fantastic. I've used Walkers Windows a few times in the past and I would recommend them to anyone. The new windows and doors gave the house a wow factor and certainly added value to the house (built circa 1836).

“DO NOT TOUCH !!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 48Weaver on 03/05/2016

After a visit by the salesman, then the surveyor all was agreed on a price, colour, position of letter box and installation date etc. I received a phone call a day later informing me that the door we had agreed on I was not able to have the letter box in the position we agreed. So this meant the salesman and surveyor didn't know anything about the products ? So after I told them that I didn't want the door, I was then told that I would be able to have the design I asked for. confused ?? I was happy at this stage. After this process, it knocked the installation date back a bit. I then received another 2 calls on separate occasions apologising for the fact that the colour I had chosen was out of stock and would have to wait a little longer. So having changed my work shift on 2 occasions for installation guys to fit the door it was still not going to happen. 3rd time lucky I got a call. Fitters were great. didn't mess about, very efficient and tidy. I was happy again, this was till it started raining. All 4 window panel's and letterbox leaked. I contacted Walkers. They sent out fitters to reseal. Job done. Oh no, then water started leaking from the sill. Fitters came back to reseal, still after more rain it leaked. Puddles on the inside of your house are not nice. Installation manager came out this time. He came to the conclusion that the fitters had NOT fitted the sill correctly so had to arrange for this to be done. I asked him to contact me when this would be done, I had to contact him as I heard nothing. Eventually a fitter came to refit the sill. By this time I had a foul smell and damp appeared on my walls. Hoping this was the end of all this terrible workmanship and service, I'm afraid it wasn't. The sill on the inside forms condensation and causes wet patches now and again. This is an intermittent problem but as my 25 year old door of previous didn't do this then I don't think a brand new composite door should either. I once again contacted Walkers to inform them of this problem. Having been ignored for a week or so I contacted them again. I was informed that Walkers was going to contact the manufacturer direct and do some testing on why this was happening. The last I heard from Walkers Windows was 26th February 2016 and it is now the 3rd May. So overall the door we purchased looks fantastic, good quality but as for the company itself I would never purchase from or recommend to.

“Renaiged on Contract”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Yeseniah316 on 12/10/2015

Please do not touch this Company. After much "shopping around" we decided on Walkers Windows. We agreed a price and signed a contract with card details taken for the deposit. Next day the salesman came back to advise that he had made a mistake and that the price should have been £500.00 higher. Speaking to the Sales ~Manager, "The quote was a genuine mistake". The out shot of it all is that Walkers do not want to know anything about it. They think handing back a signed contract by both parties renaigs any agreement! Let's see what happens. Watch this space.

Hi,

In response to your review of Walkers Windows i feel it necessary to apologise once again for any inconvenience caused. However as i previously explained the contract that was signed by yourself clearly states "All contracts are subject to surveyors reports and findings" and therefore you were informed within 24 hours of signing the contract that we would not be able to install the goods outlined within your agreement. As you are aware the contract was returned along with your deposit the same day so as not to cause you any further inconvenience.

The point is, I would like readers to understand you did not renege on the contract after a survey or anything justifiable like that. You simply cancelled my contract on the basis that your salesman apparently undercharged by £500.00! It is all very well requesting an extra £500 24 hours later but it has been extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing having to go back to other companies whom we had already advised we were going with someone else.
The fact is you are a totally unreliable and unprofessional organisation if you can't get a simple quote correct the first time.
As you know we invested a lot of time, effort and expense in choosing you as a company.
It is on this basis I strongly recommend prospective purchasers go elsewhere and not waste their time with Walkers.
For the record, the salesman came no less than 3 times to finalise the measurements and costs.....
At least you admit you caused us inconvenience [or at least "no further inconvenience" ] so a simple gesture of goodwill would have gone a long way.

looks like you live in complete cuckoo land, if the sales rep was 100% technically aware there would be no need for surveyors if they spot an issue they advise the sales department, why would they do a job and lose £500 the £500 was probably less tthan the actual value anyway.
pretty obvious you were after something for nothing and no i dont work for outfit its idiots like you we dont need in the building trade

“Impressive performance from Walkers Windows”

★★★★★

written by Ernestw120 on 26/08/2015

Our house was in desperate need of new guttering and facias. We got several companies in for quotes, but the chap from Walkers was knowledgable and we did not feel pressurised nor taken for fools on price. Highly impressed with final product, looks brilliant and certainly sorted out the problems that we had. Within 24 hours of installation we had a tottential downpour and for the first time in a couple of years no overflowing gutters! The lads who came to fit the cutters and facias were highly professional. They were friendly and considerate; they left the property clean and tidy at the end of each day. Very impressed, would recommend to others and will certainly use again when our windows need replacing. Well done Walkers!

“avoid, run or keep your old windows.”

Salesman great, could sell sand to Arabs, unfortunately this is the only good thing about this company, Failed to do the job in designated time insufficient fitting team poor workmanship ruined bathroom through broken tiles, read clause 7 before signing contract.  Aggressed for payment in full although work incomplete; we found the tone of their e-mails rather nasty.  We dealt with a director and we found his attitude to be arrogant and ignorant.  The list is endless avoid this company at all costs or it will be you that pays the price.

Hi,

It's great to see that you are pleased with the sales side of our company; however, it is with disappointment that you see fit to write such a negative review regarding the installation with Walkers Windows.

In reference to the fitting running over schedule, I would argue that all the work was completed within the specified time slot, however, due to how your old windows were installed, on brackets it created a problem when removing your bathroom window. The workmanship is to a good standard and has been checked by more than one member of our management team. The issue you have is with the damage to the tile, which Walkers Windows has attempted to rectify by trying to source a replacement for you - despite clause 7 stating that the company cannot accept liability for this. After extensive research, it came to light that the tile was over 25 years old and was no longer available to purchase. You will not accept anything else.

It comes as a surprise too that you would review a product that you do not own as you have not paid for your installation yet. Your argument that it is incomplete is invalid as you will not allow us back on site to merely finish the trims on the windows until we agree to cover the cost of re-tiling your entire bathroom (approx £1,000!)

One of our Directors has made several attempts to come to an amicable agreement with you but, living in the compensation culture that we live in; we now feel we are in an impossible situation as you refuse to negotiate.

If you have taken time to read this reply to this review, a member of Walker's staff would love to speak with you in order to allay any concerns you may have. As a company that has been in business for over 30 years, it is unfortunate that we have particular customers that would rather write a review on here rather than speak directly with us as we are more than happy to try and resolve any complaint or query

OH dear, seems quite a lot of customers are dissatisfied with the quality of work you carry out, and some without a response from you ! a rebuild at their cost?

You gave a schedule of 1.5 days to complete, you took 3 days and did not finish, you argued the work was completed within the allotted time scale , however you contradict this when you state we would not allow you access to complete the job, so which statement do you stand by? Is it because you sent an inadequate sized fitting team?

The two inspections of your workmanship was carried out before completion, how can this be a true inspection? and one of them slightly biased as problems outlined were discarded immediately.

We don't just have an issue with a tile we have several issues that include broken tiles, however as usual you seem to choose to ignore these issues and would rather bully for payment than rectify works in order to achieve payment. We would like to reiterate what issues you are already aware of, refer back to previous e-mails as we can ! Removing items from our property without consent, When politely asking for said items back on several occasions, you played ignorant and offered no real answers is this legally correct? a 32 inch crack to main wall in master bedroom this is one of many, shot plaster to the third bedroom, cracks or chips to all window sills, previous work carried out to this property: back door needs re - alignment inner frame snapped, French doors to where day light can be seen not weather proof by any means, all these issues were pointed out whilst the director was carrying out his inspection, his response was a shrug of his shoulders yet in clause 7: all work other than tile and wall fittings will be rectified by Walkers windows, you clearly breach your own contract details but are quick to quote them when the situation benefits yourselves.

You blame the damage of our property to the brackets on the old windows, yet Walkers Windows had full knowledge of the brackets because of prior work carried out on our property, but you failed to inform us or the contractors to this potential problem. Very amateurish in my humble opinion !

Could you please list the offers made by your director so we can assess them, as so far we have not received any formal offers, just demands of full payment for work not yet finished or rectified. Which then led to aggressive correspondence and threats of legal proceedings.

I am however prepared to pay in full if you provide an independent window surveyor (by agreement) to come and inspect your workmanship and him to be 100% satisfied with the work you have carried out and no further work is necessary other than your 25mm inner trim.

Or you agree to use our home in your sales brochure, showing all internal photographs to show off your quality workmanship and how your home will look after Walkers windows have installed their goods.

Very true I have the same problem that is still ongoing since I had my conservatory built in 2012. They don't ring you back, absolutely shocking customer service, when finally you think they are doing something they send someone around to look at the problem they say they will be in touch but never do, then when you ring to speak to them i am told they don't work for the company anymore which has happened to the last 5 managers who have been round. Do they think we are stupid!!! I am now taking legal action against them.

Really sorry to hear your dilemma, and wish you all the luck with any actions you may take to bring justice to this outfit, sadly we went down the legal route and lost even though a representative of Walkers did admit in court that the work carried out at our address was not of their usual standard but having read your review and many others I believe they should have agreed that the poor workmanship was their average standard of work, but due to contract signature the court ruled in favour of Walkers Windows, which this company hides behind what ever the issue is so PLEASE READ WALKERS WINDOWS CONTRACT IN FULL BEFORE YOU SIGN, another issue we have found is that the guarantee is only valid to the paying customer and is not transferable should you wish to sell your house, this does compromise and delay the selling process. The owner of Walkers even offered us money to remove our review, which we declined in order for people to read the truth about this company. We have photo evidence of their butchering workmanship and saw no certificates to prove their work force was competent to carry out any window fitting service, we are always happy to show our lovely arrangement of photographs highlighting the care and professionalism of Walkers Windows to anyone that shows interest in having their windows changed in the near future. Good luck and maybe Watchdog is the next option?

“Dreadful company - Beware”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 189Dickson on 17/04/2015

We are disgusted with the service received throughout from Walkers Windows when building our extension. Time scales were not adhered to, work was shoddy, far too many mistakes were made. Workers were pulled off tasks before completing them leaving them rushed and doing a poor job. Project management was non existent hence we never knew what was happening when. Walkers sought money when they were due non and the job nowhere near complete. We were told the job would be 3 weeks. It's now over a year later and we are still correcting the mistakes made. We have never had the misfortune to deal with such a dreadful company. The stress caused by this firm is too much to describe. There is no customer care evident and no follow on customer service. Management is dismissive. Deal with this firm at your peril. So much went wrong it could not all be listed here. Please take heed of the many poor reviews there is about this company.

Hi,

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way about your installation by Walkers Windows last year. Due to a very successful advertising campaign and a high volume of referrals from satisfied existing customers, the installation department was working to their absolute limits in order to achieve the desired timescales of our customers, sometimes under circumstances that are unfortunately beyond our control.

This is by no means an excuse and in our endeavours to improve our service we are keen to learn from any mistakes made, if you wish to highlight them please feel free to contact our Sales Manager Charles Whitehead to discuss further.

We would like to express that there have been a lot of changes here at Walker Windows Ltd over the last 12 months in order to satisfy customer’s requirements and expectations. We have now appointed two installation managers with over 30 years industry experience who will proactively and promptly deal with any issues that may arise.

Thank you for your feedback

The lads have just left after doing our roofline (facias, soffits and dry liners)and we are over the moon with the work they have done. They were here for two days and we have no complaints whatsoever. They were polite, hard working and have done an excellent job. All the mess which came down from the roof was swept away before they left. So glad that we chose to ignore all the negative reviews on here. WELL DONE WALKERS WINDOWS! Lets hope that they make as good a job when they come to fit the windows in a few weeks time.

We have now had all our windows and doors replaced by Walkers and apart from the surveyor not picking up on the fact that there were no lintels, nor noticing that there was only one gallows support under our large bay window instead of three, we are very happy with the work that has been done. Marvellous job!!

“best thing ever done”

★★★★★

written by davenjayne on 25/03/2015

We have recently had a conservatory built by Walkers Windows, after signing the contract I started reading reviews left by other customers about this company. Both me and my husband began doubting whether we should have looked at another company having read some negative comments that other customers had written, all I can say is don't believe all you read!! From the minute the salesman arrived to the minute the job was signed off completed we can find no fault with anyone from the bricklayers to the floor fitter. Everyone couldn,t have been more polite, friendly, tidy even to the point of sweeping the garden for us. Ours is only a small garden and where the conservatory was going to be built it would have slightly infringed on our neighbours boundry but the surveyor came up with solutions for the problem even ringing us one night with a slightly different proposal for the roof panels. After every stage of the building work the "Foremen" came to check that the work was done to the exact specifications and to make sure that we were happy with everything. All in all this is the best thing we have ever had done and should have had done years ago and it is all down to Walkers Windows who we would have no problems recommending to anybody. Many thanks for everything

MY ADVICE …. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Its 12 months since Walkers took a lot of money from my wife and I and in return provided us with nothing but heartache and misery. As result of their failures and pathetically poor building work, we have had to pay another company James Harvey Builders to completely demolish and rebuild our orangery.

I contacted walkers after seeing one of their vans working in my street. the salesman called and gave me a quote and explained all I wanted to know. the surveyor called took precise measurements and the went through the salesmans details to make sure what we thought we were getting was what we were getting. we had changed our minds on a few minor details and this was changed for us. when the fitters arrived they were polite and dust sheeted the hallway and where they were working when they had finished they even got out the vacuum. in this day of take the money and run businesses I was glad to see a family firm in action. I ve read a few of the reviews on here and can honestly say that the bad ones must be very bad luck.

Just had a new conservatory that looks fantastic! After signing our contract with Walkers, we were giving dates of a survey, and from there given a date when the work would start. There was a little mess, which we were expecting due to knocking through into the kitchen, but it was well cleaned up by the fitters that came. Great service from the office staff who kept us well informed of trades that were coming! BIG BIG thanks to [name removed], he really got the job moving and made it all go smoothly, this guy knows what customers want and delivers! The extra space we now have is great for our family. My mum and my brother are now looking at having new conservatories from Walkers.

I would use walkers windows again... A friendly, professional service & a reasonable price too.

Can Walkers Windows legally keep a key they took from our property, without our permission? We are in dispute with the company and they now have a means of access to my home and are refusing the return the key until payment of the final invoice has been made.  They have not even issued the final invoice yet so I can't pay it even if I wanted to. My wife is actually feeling ill at the fact that this company have a means of access to our home at any time without our permission. If anyone knows where I stand on this I'd be grateful for advice.

We strongly recommend that you speak to a solicitor - most will give you 30 mins free advice. It may be that Walkers have "legal title" to the goods until the invoice is paid and thus can remove them without your consent. If we were in your position, we would change the locks - it might cost you £50 but it would be money well spent.
Report this content A-consumer Written on: 22/07/2014
No! they cannot keep your key, in simple terms it's theft. Ask them to return your key in writing by registered post informing them if they do not within say 7-days you will report the matter to the Police. Ignore their threats I've had them all they are absolutely meaningless.... don't pay them a penny more until your absolutely satisfied with what your being asked to pay for (which in real terms means never). Document everything with times, dates and photographs. If your unsure of what to do and where to go, forget the DGCOS they are toothless and Walkers are no longer members, speak to the Citizens Advice and complain to Trading Standards.... Let every other potential customer out there know exactly what Walkers are ... TOTALLY UNTRUSTWORTHY .... STAY AWAY .... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Yes, we have complained to DGCOS as have several others on this website. See our review walk away. Note that walkers are no longer DGCOS members. We considered a small claims court action but fortunately we were able to recover all our costs via a section 75 claim as we paid the deposit using a credit card.
