“Currys treat customers like criminals!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by master22 on 07/11/2015

Few months back I had to make a trip to my local curry's to buy a new fridge. It should be simple enough. I checked online first and that the fridge I wanted was in stock. I was collecting the fridge with transport.

I went in store and after checking out the fridge which was curry's own brand, I bought it. I should of been in and out with little hassle.

I had to try and find someone as there was hardly any staff about. I did find someone and this Currys member of staff, went to collect the fridge out the back for me. Even that took long enough. So we walked towards a checkout at the back of the store to pay for my item.

I was just getting my cash out to pay while the staff was there and he said, we will have to go down the front of the store to pay. I asked why and he said, I thought you was paying by card. I explained I always pay cash as it's my preferred payment and I know what I am spending then. I was made to feel like a criminal, inconvenience just because I was paying by cash. I was not happy about this disgusting treatment. Cash is legal tender and they can't refuse to let you pay with cash.

So shortly after getting my cash out and paying, I was then asked for my name and address. I said no and asked what they wanted my address for.
The member of staff came out with, well for your warranty and if anything goes wrong. I said, I have a receipt for that and that is my proof of purchase. I still refused and said, you don't need my name or address and I’m not going to give it to you, it's just a fridge. Then other members of staff joined in and tried to bully me, in to giving my name and address. I started to get annoyed with them. Another Currys smart Alec said, what happens if there is a product recall. I said well it will be on your website or in the papers like many other sorts of product recalls.

They were messing about with the till as I refused to give my name and address. I said, just enter the store address. Another member of staff came over and had to sort out the issues with the tills. I stood my ground with these bully's and said, If I ever shop in here again, I will not be giving you my name or address for any reasons and the only time you can asked for them, is if I buy a TV.

As I carried the fridge toward the exit, the bloke asked me if I was happy with the service today and this smiley, sad face thing curry's have. I said, well after the treatment I had today, I think not and will be a sad face. His reply was, maybe it's not a good idea then.

So much for Currys asking customers to rate there service. If it don't go there way, they turn customers away. I am absolutely disgusted being treated like a criminal in curry's stores, for paying cash and then trying to bully me, in to me giving them my name address, when I don't have to. How dare curry treat people like this!

I did call Currys customer service and complained. They did agree that they should not of tried to force me to give my details and about how I was treated because I were paying cash but informed me, it is curry's policy to asked customers for there details.

Policy or not, if curry's staff ask for your name and address, there is no law that's says, you have to provide it or do you have to give them your details. Only if buying a TV set, then yes, they will and can ask you.

If like me, you pay with cash, then Currys can not refuse cash, unless it's fake. Cash is legal tender. Not everybody uses cards to make payments or likes doing so.

So Currys have poor customer service and they can treat customers like criminals! Currys will treat you badly in store, so avoid this incompetent company if you can.
