In the later part of last year my fridge started icing up at the back. It got worse and worse. Continually needed defrosting to remove the large sheet of ice from the back of the fridge. The final straw was when I realised it was "eating" a lot of electricity. I have a 5 year warranty. Called up Comet. That is when I found I had to use a new telephone number to contact them for repairs. Annoyed to find the number is 10p per minute. Took over ten minutes for someone to answer the phone and then before I could give them the full details I was cut off. I went through the Phoning/waiting/endless-questions process again and finally got them to book me an an engineer - for the following week. The engineer came around and said that to repair the fridge would cost more than it was worth so he said he would write it off. Said I would recieve a letter soon telling me what to do. A week later I found a letter waiting for me at home saying that an engineer had tried to visit. I got him to come around two days later. He told me he had come to repair the Fridge. One look at the fridge and he condemned it. As he left my home he told me the same as the first engineer. I have phoned Comet a further two times and had the ususal waiting on the phone followed by the "we will contact you soon". I have heard nothing and guess what - the Warranty has now expired. Final insult was when I got a reminder for the warranty renewal through the door from Comet.
I went to the Hydro electric shop and bought a new fridge last month.

This is the second time Comet have failed. In 2010 Comet tried to con me out of money for repairs to a computer.

Last week my daughter's fridge failed. It took a week and two phone calls to get an engineer to visit. He told her she will have to wait another week for the part. That will be two weeks with no fridge. Yes she bought the fridge from Comet. And this is on a fridge that has a recall on it (only found that out from surfing the web - not from Comet).

Comet's level of service is totally atrocious and to be honest, I would rather buy white-goods from a second-hand-shop than ever go back to Comet.

The premuim rate phone number is clearly a scam to guoge more money out of customers. Also they clearly play waiting games hoping that the customer will give up or the warranty will run out (as in my case).
Clearly, Comet and the company that cover the extended warranty work are not worth the money.

I have noticed that some manufacturers are starting to offer their own two year extended warranties. This is clearly a move to combat poor warranty cover from retailers and third-party warranty companies.
