If I had read the 'official' breed guides to Patterdales before getting one, I would have stayed well clear! Luckily I fell in love with a handsome little black dog at the rescue kennels and never looked back. My Patt is a gentle, loving dog who would happily sleep next to you, under the covers, on his back, paws in the air if you let him! He has sooo much character and is as intelligent as they come. I have two small children and he is great with them.
I would say his only downfall is that he will never be 100% with other dogs. We think of him like a little staffy(he def has bull breed in him which you can see,as many patts do) he loves people but can be quite dominant with dogs that he does not know. Once he 'trusts' them though he is fine. Someone said to me once that patterdales are like the SAS of the terrier world and think that describes them very well! Overall highly recommended if you are a terrier fan and want a loving, intelligent little dog, just a tip though be verrry careful where you let them off their leads, recall is generally not a strong point...!
