“Good Plan, Awful Group Meetings”

★★☆☆☆

written by BlahBlah456 on 13/05/2016

The plan is good providing you like a variety of fruit and vegetables and it's pretty easy to follow, it may take a few weeks to really get your head around what you need to do but if you have the time to make meal plans you'll get on well with it.

The groups, on the other hand, are simply awful. People inevitably turn up early but you are not allowed to be weighed until the exact time the group is meant to start meaning that if you're staying for the 'Image Therapy' you'll have a very long wait whilst the volunteers get everyone through the payment and weigh-in.

The 'Image Therapy' is very lengthy, extremely boring and rarely useful. The consultant will go through every single person in the group and talk about their week whether it's a loss or a gain; most of the people that stay do so every week so you hear the same thing every time. I did Weight Watchers years ago and the consultant would talk to a handful of people regarding their loss/gain and then the rest of the meeting would be tips, useful information, recipe sharing and even the occasional cooking session.

You'll also find that most of the groups have their little cliques who the consultant will spend a lot of time talking to then if you have something to say, you get approximately a minute to share.

It seems that the consultants have little or no training and half of them haven't hit target or are even close to hitting it. Surely a diet consultant should be able to show that the diet works??

Even though you're paying £4.95 per week to stand on some scales and listen to a completely uninteresting and useless meeting you get nothing for it; the 'Lifeline Online' has a few good aspects but it needs a serious update. A couple of areas get updated once a week but other than that it seems that it's all the same thing. Even the prizes given out to the 'Slimmer of the Week' are usually 'Free Foods' that the other members have brought it.

You also have to book holidays, whether this is due to work, illness, an actual holiday or you know you've had a bad week so don't want to waste the money. If you happen to forget to contact your consultant, the following week you have to pay double! If I decide to not go to group for 1 week, the only person that affects is me!

Overall, it becomes boring. Slimming World need to seriously think about updating their rules, the group structure and the membership...surely you should get something more for being a member than just having the privilege to stand on the slimming world scales!
