★★★☆☆

“Proceed with caution!”

Written on: 16/09/2011 by kim_hughes1989

Unlike many people that joined Plenty of Fish (PoF) I wasn't seeking the usual long term relationship or a one night stand.
Haven't recently got out of a messy break up, I decided to use the vastly growing popularity of online dating to write about in my blog.

Admittedly I also did it for a confidence boast -which worked. However, expect contact from men 20 years your senior looking for a fling with a woman young enough to be their daughter. I was 21 at the time and the eldest bloke that contacted me was 58.
I also endured one insanely weird date with a bloke that tried to change the location of the date to a shady part of the city (his house), when I hadn't even met him yet. He grew angry and abusive when I declined and thankfully this was all over text. I called around and found a friend that was in town and he ran to my aid, thankfully, because the guy was waiting for me at the bus station. A word of advice, if you are going to go through with an online dating site and all its hang ups, arrange to meet at a place that isn't your emergency exit. For women or even men, maybe have a friend hanging around the area too - you never know if your going to need that 'something bad happened' phone call, where you can quickly leave an awkward situation.

However, towards the end of my time on PoF I was ready to throw in the towel, when a guy I'd met last year (a friend of a friend) contacted me and asked me out on a date. I can honestly say that they were the best dates I'd ever been on, he was sweet, kind, gorgeous and fit - and we've been together for the past 7 months :-D
