“This lot can be beaten”

First and foremost cancel any cards or direct debits you think they may hold the details of - this is their only real weapon to keep taking money off you. Refer them to their own customer charter which states you can cancel 'anytime' Tell them you wish to cancel by email outside of working hours - which falls within their indication of 'anytime'. Include links to several reviews of their dubious practices (Not hard that bit). Finally, indicate that they must cancel your membership as per… Read Full Review

“Preying on a basic human need...”

Written on: 05/05/2014

Divorced some years ago, i took the online route to a future soul-mate. Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of genuine people like myself but its knowing who are the real ones and not the fakes generated by the company to create revenue. Tips: Sign up for a month and no more. After that, the same old faces come around again and again. Suspect that these same old faces are probably carrot and stick to keep you hooked. They could also be non-existent fakes. Keep your search… Read Full Review

“Joined me to a explicit site without my permission!”

Written on: 01/04/2014

I joined datingagency.com for a couple of months. All fine until one morning I received an email containing graphic sexual images from their sister site naughtydating.com. I had not joined the sister site and was shocked at receiving explicit images of site members' profile photos in an uninvited email from the site. I went to the website home page and found they had posted my basic profile and automatically given me a free but full membership to this sister site. Having full membership meant… Read Full Review

Yes this is a very bad company I joined 1 site AYI Are You Interested and within a week I was receiving email from many more and my bank balance was reducing all the'dating' referral emails lead nowhere about time the FSA and police closed them down there is no way to contact them to stop[ transactions over 6 moths they took £110.78 from my bank account. I contacted my bank and cancelled all transactions to Global Personals but only managed to retyrieve £71.00 the rest the transactions were too old. I am reporting them to the police's Fraud Protection agency and getting them to Google Global Personals , then they will get all the info and be able to close them down and possibly prosecute them i.e. unaurthorised use of my card for additional sites of theirs without my permission. Take care out there and be careful of 'dating'sites omn Facebook.

STAY AWAY from these people!! They run a bunch of dating websites, so always click into the TERMS & CONDITIONS of sites to see who is running them.

I emailed them to ask if they could resolve the situation, but instead I got asked questions that DID NOT apply to me, like the 'last 4 digits of my card' I paid with and my

I agree i was a paying customer and i had all my messages monitored before they were allowed to be sent. I put decent photographs on and they were not allowed as they said the quaility is poor. Dont waste your money. Lucky i only paid one month trial, Yet when i wanted to cancel they said you will get two free weeks. I said i want to be removed immediatley they said i have to call them. Which i had already done to cancel. It really is a waste of money. Not enough people on there for a starter.Apparently they let a woman put her profile on asking for money,, a fund to pay for her 5 children to go on holiday. If any man could help her out... “Fake from start to finish”

Global personals run a massive share of internet dating in the UK along with Cupid (who IMO) are no better. The fact is Internet dating has become the domain of the fraudster and scammer and is a cash cow for greedy dot com executives, praying on vulnerable and lonely people, and Global personals are right at the top of the list. Join one site and your details can be sold or shared among many others that they run, without you having any access or knowledge that people on other site see you… Read Full Review

Globalpersonalssupport's Response to ianux48's Review

Written on: 19/12/2013

Hi ianux48, we're sorry if you haven't had the best experience using one of our sites. We don't sell anyone's data to anyone but we do state clearly in our terms and conditions that when you join one site, you join all of the sites that we manage in that niche. There could be many reasons why you don't get a response and it would be impossible to explain without seeing your profile, see the messages that you send or the profiles of those you are contacting. We certainly do not send any bogus messages and there is no-one employed whether here at our head office or anywhere in the world who sends fake messages or even create fake profiles.

If you have an issue that you would like us specifically to look at for you, email us quoting ReviewCentre ID 2382545 and we'll respond to you directly.

Thanks

Reply to Global Personals comment:

You may transfer profiles to other sites under the lengthy terms of your agreement, which of course you are banking on the customer NOT reading. This might be seen as a benefit IF the replies to messages on those site could be received, but the fact is they can't, in order to receive messages on any of your sites a customer need to subscribe to THAT specific site as well!
I ask the question in the public domain, what percentage of the profiles I see on my subscribed site are simply copied from an affiliated one; where that person is not even a member (or has no knowledge of even being visible on that site) There is NO chance of ever getting a reply, yet you are allowed to use that persons details for commercial gain often without their knowledge and they get no benefit. I can't think of any other industry where this would be allowed!
You may have curbed some of your dubious practices in the light of BBC and ITV exposures, but you primary concern is MONEY and you charge a great deal of money for not doing very much at all. Offering a genuine service is way down the list, Just sell affiliated websites and fill them with inactive/dead profiles, send a few encouraging (bot or automated) messages until the punters pay up . You don't have to do anything else but milk the cash cow from then on.

I entered into this blindly. I presumed it was genuine, but be warned, there is something very fishy about this outfit from the start. You get a message straightaway from another person, but it quickly becomes apparent this is the company, not another member. Then i couldn't get access to the website, after one day. This must bne a common problem because there is a notice on the homepage about what to do if there is a problem. They took a month's subscription - for one day. I tried to… Read Full Review

Me too, they wont refund any of my £139 after joining the site.

What they fail to tell you is that if you join and set up a female profile you can send emails, so men get bombarded with fake profiles.

I think we might be reading more about this company on the news, I am pretty sure someone will go for them soon.

Its such a shame because outfits like Global personals who probably started with the best intentions have become cash cows for greedy executives. Between them Cupid and Global personals now own the rights to 90% of all the online dating in the UK. Sadly this means that for those of us trying to find a genuine partner the odds are very much against us, I really don't know how they get away with it on such a massive scale so its back to the good old single clubs!

“GLOBAL PERSONALs”

This disgusting site for people wanting to meet others take advantage of people. They are con artists and channel 4 need to revisit this subject. Globalpersonalssupport's Response to lw136's Review

Written on: 17/01/2013

I'm sorry that you have not had the best experience of one of our sites, but please let us clarify some of the issues you raise.

You cannot be a member of one of our sites unless you enter your details there. You cannot become a full member unless you pay and then you must enter all of the credit card information required to pay and that includes all the secure information you would normally need to subscribe or pay for any online service. This cannot happen by accident.

We offer a selection of subscription terms ranging from one month to twelve, all of which are repeat transactions in common with most subscriptions. You as the member select the length of the term and hence determine the cost. Obviously the longer the term the greater the initial outlay, but also the bigger the discount. If you paid £90, then you will have selected one of the longer terms.

The reason why your bank may seem unhelpful is because you have entered into a legal contract to pay for a service that you have used. However to cancel is simple, call the freephone service shown on the website during normal office hours and one of our advisers will cancel the account for you and no more money will be taken from you account.

Of course we are not 'con-artists' and Trading Standards do not 'get a cut', they regulate us to ensure that we are fair, consistent and operating within the regulations that we are bound by.

If you need any further assistance please contact us on support@globalpersonals.co.uk

Unfortunately what you say is not quite true. I had a trial period you offered me. I didn;t like the experience but made a friend who contacted me through 'reply for free' whereby they pay to have contact with you. This is called an add-on for the benefit of a non-paying basic member - as I was after my trial period ended. I was happy to stay on the basic member ship even though your company tried to entice me to commit to full membership. I was only trying to remove my profile one evening when the incident - I call it an incident as I feel a victim of crime you see. Your company took £89.85 straight out of my bank account. It is still-two months later in dispute. You sent all my personal details including images of me from my profile to my bank-how humiliating. Now I believe you are in breach too of not adhering to data protection regulations- You are unprofessional. I have tried endlessly to contact you but receive only automated replies-Oh but this is now a different ball game on here isn't it? hm. I contacted you immediately after you stole my money , that your terms and conditions statesone can cancel within 24hrs. You ignored me. Read your own information from your site-this is what applied to me before you made me a full member-before you took my right to choose away from me:- As a basic member you can create your profile and upload a photo, use search to find members who match your search criteria, wink at those you like the look of, send an Ice Breaker to introduce yourself to others and read other members' diary entries. This gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the way the site works and see if the site is right for you, before committing any further. You can stay as a basic member for as long as you like, with no obligation to pay - until you decide you want to of course!
Now my bank (Nationwide) is aware of this case I met with my bank manager yesterday and they are looking at it seriously as I have contacted RIP OF BRITAIN about you. He agrees with me and is ashamed of your actions and wants not to be associated with you whatsoever.

You say that people must cancel a member AT LEAST 72 HOURS before the end of the period. BUT the trial period is on 72 hours long! So, you alleged "easy to cancel" trial period is impossible to cancel. It is quite simply a lie. You say we must cancel via phone numbers that never get answered. Why can't we do it online? Why doesn't a note to your support team do as cancellation. All you support team do (if they actually exist) is send the same repetitive nonsense that doesn't answer the question. Well, GlobalPersonals...I simply cancelled my card and you didn't get paid!

Hello, thanks for you comment. That's not good is it. I also know of other people this has happened to. Most people won't discuss as it has an element of embarrassment and shame attached to the issue of being single and wanting to find a partner. Of course this is natural and most humans feel they need other people to share their life with. What makes me quite frustrated is when global personals or whatever name they hide under are take advantage of people's situation as they know that a high proportion of the GP will not take action, even blame themselves for being on the site in the first place. I do hope that more people have access to this site here and maybe with collaboration this unfair system of trading can be stopped

“Channel Four News exposes scam”

Written on: 03/11/2012 by Sceptical (1 review written)

A few days ago, Channel Four News (UK) ran a credible item exposing a fake profile scam operated by Global Personals Ltd. Two former employees admitted the practice. Nearly a year ago I joined a site calling itself 'Classical Music Lover Dating', which turns out to be run by Global Personals Ltd. I have no direct evidence of there being fake profiles, but there were features of the site that aroused suspicion. For example, whenever I thought I'd paid to be a full member, there was something… Read Full Review

I believe channel four need to revisit this subject. I have been subjected to torture from this company - they are so unprofessional-they use white labelling to disguise how many dating sites they operate. I know they run the observer newspaper dating site amongst others-probably most of them tbh. I think they need to be taught a lesson and held responsible for the misery they cause innocent people. Trading standards are not doing a very good job-More people should stand up for their rights and complain about them. This show needs to stop now.

Written on: 17/01/2013

Channel Four News published a correction to this article as the practice that was described was stopped several years ago and the sole former employee that they interviewed left the company over four years ago.

When you pay to become a full member you get all the facilities and there is nothing else you need to pay for. We offer add-on services which you do not have to buy but they improve your experience on the site, but you are not obliged to buy them and should not impact on your ability to use the services.

Messages are generated by members and most of these will be personal i.e. member to member but we also offer an 'Ice Breaker' service to some members. We publicise this service clearly on the site, but we normally only make it available for use once because it is very effective at reaching a wide number of members.

To cancel is simple, call the freephone service advertised on the site during normal opening times and an adviser will do it for you.

I'm sorry that you did not have the best experience on this site, but please let me comment on your review.

We have a team of moderators whose job is to keep inappropriate content of the site, and that includes anyone who appears to be non genuine. There are facilities on the site to report people who you suspect as being inappropriate, and we do not allow the kind of membership you describe.

We do not moderate all messages and yes there are certain things that moderators will remove, i.e. inappropriate content or language etc. but then if we didn't then we would also be open to criticism for allowing such things.

Of course we don't ignore requests to cancel, the instructions are quite simple and are found on the website. We work closely with Trading Standards to ensure that our sites are legal, fair and consistent.

Dear Global Personals

Your moderators also remove any information that informs other parties that a client is not subscribed, and therefore cannot reply, thus keeping respondents effectively hanging on an open line, and censor any attempt to impart any information that may enable the client to be found EVEN ON ANOTHER OF YOUR OWN BRANDED SITES!!! This latter point, given the evident fact of YOUR sharing of details between your sites, appears to be profiteering at the highest (=morally lowest) level.
