My mother joined Datingagency.com as a mature member, her intention was to use the 3 day trial period at £1.99 to see how it went.
However in the process of paying the fee her first attempt failed, the reason being that the website is defaulted to “Visa” unless you change it - she was using a Mastercard.
Upon realising that she had to change the default to Mastercard the second attempt was successful – however it charged her for a full membership at £104.99. After calling the agency one of their staff explained that this is what the website does in this circumstance, so it must have happened before to other people. My mother asked for the full membership to be cancelled and to be charged £1.99 as was her original intention, but she was told that this couldn't be done because she had already sent one message.
She sent the message in reply to someone who had contacted her, she thought she could do this as she should have had the £1.99 membership. The Daily Mail confirmed this when it published an article describing how the staff were asked to write false letters of interest to make members believe they might actually meet someone. It's just one of thousands of sites owned by the company Global Personals and should be given a very wide berth. Unfortunately my mother didn't get her £105 back - no chance!
