“A whirlwind... and then a blizzard!”

Written on: 15/03/2012 by JemmaDonnelly

I was a member of several dating sites and had got a bit of interest here and there but some of those connections were brief and they felt a bit lacking in substance. I'd always maintained that I'd never go on a Christian site as I'm a rather bumbling Anglican and I felt that these sites were probably for more charismatic types. When one of my sisters married in my garden in 2009 I was really wondering when it might happen for me and, in the run-up to the wedding, she was brave enough to challenge me on how much time I was really putting into dating. I had a busy job, a busy social life and a lot of contact with my widely spread family, was I actually prepared to give this side of my life the time it needed. I decided I was and I also decided that I couldn't say that all Christian sites were "not very me" until I'd tried one!

I signed up to CHristian Connections for the week's trial and found Kevin's profile on the last day of that trial week. Something clicked. I paid up for a month. We emailed each other for hours over the next few weeks and I knew I had to meet him as I'd basically fallen for him hook, line and sinker and I needed to find out if he felt the same. We had our first date on Friday the thirteenth (2009). It was an incredible evening. We had our second date the following day. On our fifth date, he proposed and I said yes! We kept that quiet as we thought our friends and families might think we'd gone mad. In March 2010, he proposed again, this time armed with a stunning Art Deco style ring and - again - I said yes.

We married during the snows of December 2010. We were without many friends and family members who couldn't get through the weather, we had no wedding car and, ultimately had to cancel our reception when the plouce closed the road but the service was just extraordinary, many friends, Chrisians and non-Christians said it was a hugely spiritual occasion and we felt that too. We both receieved communion, me from my dear Dad who took the service, and Kevin from a fab Catholic priest who assisted. We lost thousands of pounds on our wedding and then forked out again for a blessing last July for all those who couldn't make it for the real thing and... we couldn't be happier.

There really is someone for every kind of Christian on CC. I found an incredibly well-read, cricket-loving, toast-eating Catholic who is an amazing husband and who will be - God willing - and amazing Dad later on this year! It's a user friendly site that communicates with its subscibers in a no-nonsense and relaxed. Can't quite remember what my month's membership was back in 2009 but, whatever it was, it was money very, very well spent!
