The Toshiba SD-210E is fab and reliable!! But it has no mp3 and lacks features that other machines offer.

Picture and sound quality are very good on this Toshiba SD-210E DVD player. When it works, it works! Many people are happy with Toshiba players and they do appear to come up top trumps in magazine reviews. I had an old Toshiba SD-110 before this, which was superb. The SD-210E however, has unfortunately been problematic from day one. From the day I opened the box, I have been experiencing very high failure rates. Nearly every disc is rejected saying "Please check disc" - every disc needs ejecting/reloading about 5 times before it is accepted. When the player does decide to work, it has an INCREDIBLY long loading time. I sent this off to a Toshiba-approved repair centre the week I bought it, it came back supposedly fixed. Worked normally for about 2 weeks, but again with very long loading times, and then same problems commenced once again. I wrote to Toshiba and received no reply whatsoever. Perhaps this was just my bad luck that I got one of the bad batch, but warranty's now up and it was money down the drain - I now have to buy a new player.

Never buy this thing - it's not only secured with code 2 but it won't play mp3's or homeburned cd's.

I was searching for exactly the product that the Toshiba 210e DVD player is. It has all the features I expected and component video output in addition. If you add 192kHz sampling of sound D/A converter it's incredible for the price c.270$. I expected MP3 playback instead of radio as background source of music - no advertisements.
And that's it! The player put strange sounds - whistles and sputters - into the sound while decoding MP3. So I sent the player into the authorized service. After a month they sent it back with comment that the correction is too expensive (MP3 buffering as a part of the main board) and other players they used for comparison do the same. So I return the player back and searching for another. If you're searching for very good cheap player without MP3 go for it. Forget about this low-end Toshiba otherwise.

Except that it has no in built ntsc/pal converter, so that us poor saps that have a tv that is not NTSC compliant, you can only play NTSC discs in black & white. otherwise 10/10

The Toshiba SD210E DVD player is, altogether, a fantastic buy.
