I purchased two "Manchester" halogen table lamps, intended for use at my bedside.
Very soon, i.e. within minutes, I found that the lamps and fitting had become dangerously hot, far too hot to touch!
I read the accompanying leaflet, which specifically indicated that the lamps were suitable for living areas but that they needed to be kept clear of curtains and bedding! (This is difficult with bedside lamps which are at risk of being knocked over by children or animals.)
In fear of the lamps causing physical burns via contact with bare skin or starting a fire I replaced the GU10 35watt halogen bulbs with GU10 3 watt LED bulbs, BUT, reading further I found a cautionary note stating "do not use any other type of bulb"!
I contacted B&Q by email to alert them to the danger and check if, despite the printed warning, the cool low wattage LED bulb was safe.
The response was abysmal. A phone call was made to me while I was not at home and no other contact apparently attempted.
I made a complaint and after a couple of messages to B&Q received a response that ....."the details of your complaint through to our Quality Control Department to thoroughly test this product for any manufacturing defects and as soon as I receive the results I will contact you personally"....
The sender has not made contact, yet! I have received only a phone call to tell me that the 3watt LED is safe to use.
B&Q, I don't think that that is satisfactory service!
