“Value for Money”

★★★★☆

written by Gustafson178 on 08/08/2015

My family stayed in Beau Tunnel for the week in late 2014. We found the accomodation to be both clean and comfortable, albeit a bit basic. The farm itself offered exclusive access to a large woodland which was ideal for walking my two dogs. All in all a good holiday which represented good value for money when you compare the cost.

“i dont know where you lot stayed”

★★★★☆

written by simonryan on 25/03/2013

i dont know where the writers of these reviews stayed but it wasnt on the same farrm i just returned from { maybe they stayed on a phyciatric ward} cockerals crow , what do expect on a working farm , this was my 8th visit and believe me I DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON RUBBISH, everytime ive stayed at the place with my dogs and friends we have all had a good clean value for money holiday and the owner has gone out of her way to make it so , ok if it rains heavy the courtyard may get wet but so does my garden at home ,, the woods are an excellent walk for pets if you are not up to going out far , its actually not even a noisey place compared to some ive stayed on and at least if you want peace in the evening its there , no club house noise or brawling , plenty of things to do and places to visit, all in the welcome pack and i garantee i will be back again a couple of times over the comming year , ime not 1 to complain but i would if i had reason so ime also unwilling to post this review as yet another anonymous moaner , I CAN GARANTEE I HAVE HAD FAR MOREFUN AND ENJOYMENT FROM BOTURNELL FARM COTTAGES then 98% of all the places ive stayed in eu that are willing to take at animalls at no extra extortionate cost.

“just what it says on the tin”

★★★★☆

written by on 22/10/2012

having read the previous reviews I can only think that these people stayed in a completely different place. My husband and I and our two dogs have just returned from a week staying in the Old Smokehouse, and had a fantastic time. the cottage was small, but good value for the price, and very well presented. We had no issues with the cleanliness, and the bedding was of good quality. The heating was actually better than we have at home. My only issue was that a previous tenant had obviously been smoking there, despite the owners request to the contrary, andthe wifi was non existent. In perspective, however, wifi is not vital to existence, and a quick airing got rid of the smoking smell. We didn't see the owners at all except for receiving the key and returning it at the end of the holiday, but this is not a hotel, and we were out everyday. Surely the point of self catering is that you come and go as you please and do not expect to be waited on. Being an owner of two rescue dogs, I would not have stayed somewhere which did not care for its own animals. All the animals we saw, ie goats, alpacas, chickens, and horses seemed happy and well fed, and their pens were certainly not dirty and unkempt. I do agree that the 'creche' would not have been somewhere I would have left my dogs, as I thought shelter and exercise somewhat limited, but why bring your dogs on holiday if you're not going to share beaches and country walks with them? on the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, yes the cockerell was loud but what do you expect if you come to stay on a farm?

“DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY..”

written by on 25/08/2012

Arrived Saturday 18th August 2012,completely different to what Sue the owner told us,it was filthy,we paid £550.00 for the week,we was told and there is know mention about the electric coin meter. We stayed in the the converted barn which sleeps 5,on Sunday afternoon our cousin arrived with here 3year old boy, later that evening we pulled out the sofa bed which was broken and missing parts, which made it impossible to sleep on.went to the owner the next morning after spending a night on a filthy floor and nothing was done. The conservatory had a leeking floor with excesive amounts of water seeping up through the floor, with a terrible smell and made it dangerous to walk on,still nothing was done. The animals are kept in such poor conditions that the RSPSA NEED TO BE CALLED IN,we could not let our children go by them,i would hate to think the last time they had been cleaned out.My cousin only spent 1 night there with her little boy and drove back home to Bromsgrove, alot of money £275.00 to pay out for 1 night stay on a dirty floor,we ended our holiday the next day,STILL COULD NOT GET ANY REPLY FROM THE OWNER SUE. We await a preply back from her and hopefully our money back. WARNING WARNING WARNING PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY........................................................... BOTURNELL FARM COTTEGES NEEDS PULLING DOWN,A NIGHTMARE FROM START TO FINISH.........ENTRE AT OWN RISE...............................

This is completely untrue, made even more bizarre as it was their second visit. I was not told of any problems, until contacted by email, the week after their holiday. All my contact details are in the cottage and on my door, so if things were so bad, surely a phone call would have been in order? It took the builder 2 mins to re-afix the slat, once we knew. Most animals come from the RSPCA, after a thorough home check! For true reviews, see our website.

“Awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Emsilo on 26/12/2011

We stayed (very briefly) in Toad Hall in June 2011. The experience was so bad we left by 9am the following morning. The place smelt of wet dog and damp and there were flies everywhere. The oven was so old we had to get the owner to come and check it was on because the lights were broken so you couldnt tell. Everytime you flushed the toilet water leaked on the floor - the house was filthy with dog hair and dirt everywhere. My dog ate something of the floor I dread to think what it was. The garden was on a slope which meant it was uanble to use and the grass was knee high - I dont know how any previous occupant dog mess could of been found! The "enclosed" garden gate was broken which left a gap our small dog could easily of escaped from and the outside furniture was out of the garden by the car. After we left we e-mailed the owner who was very rude and dismissive - she did not care now she had our money - telling us it was our fault for not telling her what to fix - short of knocking it down and buliding it new im not sure what she could of done. Needless to say we did not return the christmas card we had from this year. I do not believe being dog friendly should be in lieu of cleanilness and if you dont either I would never stay here.

“Awful - don't waste your money”

We stayed in 'The Roost'. Our experience was awful. The cottage stank of damp, mould on the walls & inside the kitchen cupboards. Pans & utensils were covered in grease & mould. Settees were broken & uncomfortable. Bedding was dirty & stinking. The place was full of flies (both dead & alive) The conservatory leaked & was green mouldy, strung with years of cobwebs & dead flies etc. The so called 'Dog Creche' is nothing but an old wooden dog kennel with dirty broken sofas for the dogs - I would never consider putting my dogs in here. The housing for the farm animals was no better. A stable left for weeks without being mucked out. The chickens etc were living in squalid conditions smelling of faeces & rotten food. When we were packing to leave the ''cleaners'' arrived & managed to turn around a cottage in less than 20 minutes - about 10 mins cleaning & 10 standing talking. A much looked forward to holiday spoilt by substandard accommodation - I treat my dogs with a flea treatment as soon as I returned home !!!

this is fantasy! Who would stay in a place supposedly this bad and not express any concerns to the owner and score 21 out of 30 on the feedback form!

“POOR COTTAGE EXPERIENCE!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/09/2011

The cottages are converted out houses with little natural light. There was damp in the bedrooms (we stayed in Toad Hall) which are downstairs. The damp was so bad, had to move mattress up stairs. Other issues where flies everywhere, poor parking, on arrival no welcome – more of annoyance from owners, and old settees that were rock hard. There cottage was very dirty, and looked as it was not cleaned for some time. I am 6’3’’ and could not stand up in the shower as ceiling was to low. There was outdoor patio furniture which was dirty and rusted. We had use of a washing machine and dryer – for a charge which was also dirty. I could go on, but you must be bored by now. Have spoken to the other guests who were staying there at the time, and they felt the same way. We paid £500 (mid-season) for a week. At this price, you expect more then this.

Did not speak to the owner! This is untrue, there is no shower in Toad Hall! There are 3 parking spaces, usually enough for most guests.
