Very Good 1500VA UPS, indeed, for this price range. Delivery was good - just a couple of days to arrive. Very well packaged. Not as heavy as my last UPS. Contacted the manufacturer - Sweex - to check that the fan should be running at all times as some vary, to find that it should. Contacted the seller (Stuff-UK) to say that its cooling fan was too noisy to run in the same room as the computer (too much of a distraction). They said that I couldn't return it - because I had switched it on ....duh!!!! - If you find yourself in this situation, you can take it up via Amazon.... through whom Stuff-UK work as a seller. Note: If you look around you will find that some of the most expensive UPS units also have the noisy cooling fan issue. Alternatively, here's what you can do to remedy it for just a few quid:- Drain its batteries, COMPLETELY. Get yourself a small to medium 250mm length PZ (Philips type) heavy duty screwdriver. Undo the 4 chassis screws up through their location tube type holes from underneath the unit (they're pretty tight at first). Undo the little Philips screw, also, at the bottom of the front LED display panel. (The unit will need to be on its side). Gently pull the bottom of the front panel forward & the top casing up - away to one side a little - which gives you enough room to get the fan off (disconnect its 2 pin plug from the circuit board & undo its case fixing screws with a star fitting type screwdriver) & you will be able to replace it with a quieter model.... use a 3 to 2 pin connector if necessary or just cut & solder the black & red wire to the original 2 pin connector motherboard plug. NB: Touch ONLY the fan & its connections as you are in a battery voltage connection area, even though they are so-called flat while you're working. There are plenty of similar model fans on the web. Get a high quality 'silent' one - it is important to your UPS. If you use your own fan, try to replace that after 2 years. Low vibration, low noise Fractal & Xilence fans are good. A fan that runs at 25 to 3000rpm with an air volume shift of 14 to 16 CFM is sufficient. The fan it comes with is 18 CFM & 3500rpm. Rubber fan mounts/screws also help with vibration/noise reduction. All 1200VA (900 Watt) & above UPS devices all have to have a cooling fan installed, these days, by new regulations. The heat marks on the back of my last 1500VA UPS after it had done its 3 year battery life span serve to show the purpose of that. The software that came with it is good. I love to be able to monitor how clean the current is.... It protects a lot of time & effort in the computer end of things & we do get some power cuts along the year, here, as well as providing an even cleaner current than a regular anti-surge socket gang.... thus helping the components on your computer circuit board last longer, especially capacitors!! I have tested the unit.... works ace! Gives me an easy half hour to finish whatever I am doing & shut down safely in the event of an electrical mains power loss. It may be of additional help to some to know that the computer I run from this UPS has a 750 Watt Power Supply Unit, plus then there's the scanner, monitor, printer, speaker system & other peripherals I have running off it. I balance the ampage measurements of these evenly across the UPS plug connections, using double sockets on my connectors.... & a 1500VA UPS is capable of somewhat more kick than I am using which helps again protect me with the reliability & life of that unit therefore. Hmmm - straight forward then?!!!!!
