They said they was sorry but wouldn't be able to do anything apart from make a payment which would take another 3 days because it was previously in a payment cycle. “Don't use Autonet”

Written on: 11/10/2014

In 40 years of motoring I have noticed a lowering of standards and value provided by the insurance industry, but Autonet take this to a new low level. Not only do they take a very hard attitude to their customers; but their charges for changes and cancellation of policies are both unreasonable and unwarranted. Their attitude is aggressive and threatening, using small print in their policies which is not mentioned when you give them the business, but aggressively imposed later. Yes you have the… Read Full Review

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy with the level of service you received from Autonet.

When a policy is purchased, our cancellation charges and terms of business are disclosed. If you purchase over the phone, they are read out by an adviser and if you purchase online, there is an opportunity to read them before the policy is bought.

When an amendment or cancellation takes place, administration fees are charged to cover the costs incurred to us.

We aim to answer all calls as quickly as possible, however, we do accept there may be times when we are busy and it takes slightly longer. We do offer a webchat facility as an alternative, which is available from our website.

If there is anything further we can help with, please let us know.

I took out insurance from Brokers Autonet in September 2014, they arranged insurance through Aviva, this was a new vehicle and had a normal registration number on it, i applied to have my cherished number transferred to the new vehicle and on 3/10/14 i received my log book back from DVLA. I contacted Autonet to change the reg number over and was stunned to be told it was going to cost me a total of £68 to do this, BUYERS OF THIS INSURANCE COMPANY BEWARE. Dear Sir/ Madam,
Thank you for your comments.

Please accept my apologies for the amount of time you spent waiting on the phone. This is not acceptable and is not the level of service we expect to provide.

When you initially purchase a policy, our terms of business, including cancellation charges should be explained to you. If this was not the case, we'd like to investigate this for you.The policy that you purchased is an annual contract. If this cancelled, charges are made to cover the administration costs incurred to us.

“Complete and utter rip off merchants!”

I was with Auto net Insurance for 13 months for my truck and did not have any problems. On the 11th September I bought a cheap small car as the truck is not used any more.I asked for two quotes, one for the truck and car, the other just for the car. Putting both together it was going to cost too much so I decided to just take out Insurance for the car. I was then passed to someone else who, after I explained the situation to hung up on me. Dear Sir/ Madam,
Please accept my apologies for the level of service you received from Autonet in relation to the length of the call and the cost incurred. We place a great deal of importance on customer service. As such, it is not acceptable that you should have been on hold for this length of time and we’d like to look into this for you.
The policies that we set up are for 12 months. When 12 months expires, the policy is renewed in to another 12 month policy. If this is then cancelled, charges will apply as per our terms of business. At the time of your initial purchase, our terms of business should have been clearly explained to you. These would have included details of the charges that are made when a policy is cancelled. The charges should have also been clearly explained when you asked to make your cancellation too and we’d like to investigate this for you.
We’d also like to look into the points you raise about threatening phone calls. If you would like us to do so, please get in touch using either the web-chat facility or the email address at the top of our Review Centre page, so that we can access your details.

Kind regards

Hi,
It must be made clear to you, your company, Your employer, Auto net, That Reps and sale can not place over inflated add on costs, surcharges to contracts when we choose to cancel.
We have rights. We did in fact cancelled after 13 months use, we paid up as agreed, monthly. Bank payments never failed once. We used Auto net for 13 months before we cancelled and that was due to the poor service we had received at you end. In addition, at the time of us continuing to use you, Auto net did not at anytime send us information or explain the mammoth add cost of sale fee's, retain of commission fees, and so on. But since we have cancelled your company have telephoned every other day or so well over 12 time to arras e and yes at times threaten. You have every opportunity to investigate and should as a matter of professional conduct. You are requested as before on numerous occasions to communicate to us by Royal mail. The telephone stalking must stop.

Following a search on Confused.com for car insurance, i took out a policy with Autonet insurance which seemed on paper to be very fair and reasonable in relation to other quotes received. I only wish i had done a quick google search for Autonet before committing, as i would have saved myself weeks of trouble, stress and grief, and would also have saved myself a significant sum of money. Hi,
I understand that our Complaints team have been in touch with you with an explanation of the circumstances and included your documents for you. If this is not the case, please let me know.

The documents that were requested from you were requested by the underwriter. With some insurers this is now standard procedure and all customers now have to provide these when taking out a new policies with these underwriter to help reduce fraud across the industry. However, I can confirm that the underwriters are now satisfied with all of the documentation that you have provided.

In relation to the claim that was added for your husband, I understand that the circumstances surrounding the incident were out of your husband’s control and this could not have been avoided, however given that your husband made a claim from his own insurance this has to be documented as a ‘fault’ claim due to claims costs being occurred and/or unrecoverable.

By fault claim, this does not necessarily mean that the incident was your husband’s fault, but in fact means that he did not have a third party to claim from. Any incident where a claim is made through an insurer, the person making the claim is deemed as the party at fault regardless of the circumstances.
We are in no way suggesting that your husband was responsible for this incident.

Therefore, the claim that has been added to your policy can not be removed and the additional premium that it has created will need to be paid. The only way that this claim can be removed is to remove your husband as a named driver from the policy.

Kind regards
Nicola

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to respond, but i expect this is a full time job for you with the number of dissatisfied customers you currently have. I find it strange that the other 3 policies my husband is on did not change in any way at all yet you want to increase the premium by 33%. You are opportunistic people preying on the trust and good faith of people, threatening them that they'll get nothing if they cancel, therefore they have to pay the additional premiums. You should be ashamed of yourself, but you'll have put out enough of these pseudo apologetic letters by now that its water off a ducks back i'm sure. Please don't bother to respond, as i don't need the trouble....you've upset me enough as it is with the hassle i have experienced in this whole carry on. It is by far the worst experience in all of my driving life in taking out an insurance policy. I just hope that Confused.com takes note of the complaints and removes you from their approved supplier list as its clear there are a large number of disappointed people

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m sorry to hear you are unhappy with the cancellation charges applied to your policy.

When you purchase motor insurance, it is an annual contract which includes costs for arranging and administering the policy through it’s lifetime. If this contract is cut short, cancellation charges are applied to cover these costs. As we are an insurance intermediary, different costs may apply with each of the insurers we work with. These costs are set out in our terms of business and policy booklets.

As we are an insurance intermediary we do not set the costs of amending a policy to add a part-time business. The insurance company with whom the insurance is underwritten by are responsible for this. Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for letting us know about your experience with Autonet. We take all customer feedback seriously and would like the opportunity to look into it for you. If you’d like us to do this, please can you get in touch with your details, using the email address at the top of our Review Centre page.
Some of our insurers request extra information from customers. This helps to verify customers’ name, address, proof of vehicle ownership and no claims bonus details to protect customers such as yourself and reduce fraud across the industry. This also enables us to offer competitive prices to our customers. We do offer a variety of ways to send the information to us, including email, fax, post or web chat with one of our agents to help guide you through the process

Usually, when customers send details to us, a letter and email are sent to confirm these have been received and that they are acceptable. Please accept my apologies that this didn’t happen on this occasion. If you send your details to us, we can investigate why this didn't happen.

Also, as a business, we charge cancellation fees to cover the costs incurred by us to arrange and administer your insurance policy.
