I went to see Russell Brand's 'Messiah Complex' the other night at the Hammersmith Apollo, and I wasn't disappointed. Russell was everything he is on TV and more; intelligent, profound, at times ridiculous; but equally one of the most naturally funny comedians on the circuit right now.
What's nice about watching Russell live is that it is not JUST a comedy show. He raises really thought provoking debate about religion, politics and spirituality too. You quickly realise how meaningful these topics are to him, and its a pleasure to watch someone so passionate about what they do.
I was close to giving all 5 stars, but settled on 4 as at times he would go off on a rather crude tangent. Perhaps he was looking to cater for all audiences, but I didn't find these parts particularly funny.
