I go to Costa at least twice a week and spend a good hour in there every time I go. "You must love the place" I hear you call. Errr....No, but what Costa lacks in some areas it make up for with it's steer distribution.
Every random pub, petrol station, pet shop and swap shop (in fact everyone everywhere) seems to be selling Costa these days, and luckily for my small town we have been touch by that invasion too.
I say luckily, because otherwise we'd have to sit with our kids in a pub that smells of stale beer and Costa is certainly a step up from that, but there are certainly things they could improve.
The obvious one is price. The markups on Coffee are absolutely crazy. Every time I'm waiting in the queue I listen to hear the faint squeals from people when they are told the bill.
Then there's the food they serve. Muffins, eh. They look good don't they. All pretty, like they were made out the back. Great until you one day see them filling the states they are presented on from something that looks like it came from Costco (although the entire Costco tray of cakes would cost less than the single Costa Muffin - there's a reason it's called Costa!).
Then there's the little bit about listening. My little one has a WARM milk with Vanilla every we go. So what do we get (at least 1 in 3 times). HOT MILK...burn a child's (who is quite evidently with me) mouth hot. What is the point in fat/thin/mocha/choca/soya/shot coffee with a twist if your staff are going to struggle with the difference between WARM and HOT?
Like I say, I still go back so it's not that bad...but I wouldn't want to be Costa if a competitor opened up. Acceptable(ish) is a fair rating...more work needed!
