MTJLT's review of Barnett Black Widow

“Good ... But ...”

★★★☆☆

written by MTJLT on 04/04/2013

Do not try the Black Widow with light, small ammo; shots go wild. Accuracy is fair to good with 12mm/.5" steel balls. Standard yellow bands are medium-hard pull, mainly because the pouch isn't sufficiently textured for a good grip. Try the fist-grip shown on YouTube for a much better pull. I would much prefer tapered bands such as Marksman provides, but with the larger pouch of the Barnett. I would also like to see a better style of band-to-pouch attachment, as the existing type allows the pouch to twist within the band loops. The wrist brace strap on my example was quite loose, so I added a wrap of duct tape to the rods and pushed the strap back on for keeps.

All told, the Barnett Black Widow gives good value for a light-weight, wrist braced slingshot, but the Marksman with tapered, red bands shoots faster and more accurately with lighter, smaller balls.
