“DO NOT BUY OR SERVICE WITH TGESE CHEATS AND LIARS ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RippedUsOffCheatsandLiars on 10/03/2023

WARNING!! These people are rogues, untrue and sham, look at all review sites, don’t just take my word for it, look at all review centres to see how many others have been cheated by these clowns ???? UK Trust Pilot score 2.9 Review Centre 3.7 Yell rating 3 I can see that people have had positive experiences, but of those how many have used their goods a few months after it’s been in and certain things were not working or broken and had to go in for repair? Our caravan went in for a service in October 2022 and we used it first in February 2023, when booking up to water it started spraying out from over the wheel arch and investigation found that pipe connectors were dislocated. When they were reconnected and the water system pressurised the shower “that has never been used in this virtually new caravan started dripping within the tap mechanism, the gas bottle was found to be connected and turned on live and the coax no longer worked. The history with these people extends back over two years where they have fabricated ???, done incomplete works and handed back saying it was done but we had the caravan for two years and the USB sockets have never worked, there was plenty of corrective warranty work to do but significantly for these people the USB sockets have been repaired twice however never actually worked, it went in for service in October 2022 and the USB sockets were not working, they were working when it came back out but their work sheet stated “NFF” which means No Fault Found, they weren’t working and then were working, they most definitely fixed the fault but chose to suggest there was no fault. This time we reported the water leak, Gas Bottle still connected and broken coax. The response was - you have left water in your caravan and caused frost damage, winterisation is in the handbook and how to store in these conditions  We responded that we brought it into you for service in October, with no water in it, gas bottle not connected with a working coax and here we are with the first use and the gas bottle is connected, pipe connecters popped out with a full water system, a damaged shower and broken coax! Their response was ??? We have a policy not to leave water in caravans after a service, we often use our own gas bottles???? during service We did reply that although they have a policy their technician on this occasion has not adhered to it, we know this is fact because it came into you devoid of water, gas bottle disconnected in the absolutely right storage conditions prescribed by the manufacturer but here we are now with water damage, disconnected pipe connections and broken shower tap that has “never been used” and the only that has happened is it coming to you where we know you have filled it with water and tested gas! So they said bring it in and we will check and “rectify” the problem’s, direct excerpt from their email below in images!! We took it in, they then called and said we have reviewed the issue and can clearly say that yes it was water damage due to water having been left in it, so we have replaced the shower tap that you will now have to pay for to get your caravan back…..No call to say it needs a shower tap, no authority requested to perform works to the caravan just we’ve done it and here is your bill and we won’t be releasing your caravan until you pay it. We then emailed the directors to outline everything that had happened, how our 4 young sons were strapped in the car whilst we located a leak in the evening and darkness and then dried up the water that had gone all down into separate compartments, a gas bottle was connected and left in a live condition as well as broken coax and it was at their business where this has happened, this our first use of the caravan since service. The directors of this business has no interest, the manufacturer had no interest, but they are now involved in a court case see images below, they will be made to care. IF YOU PLAY SILLY GAMES YOU WILL GET SILLY PRIZES

We paid a deposit on a second hand caravan. The caravan was 2017 and described in the advert as fantastic condition. The caravan on initial inspection had many issues however the sales person advised would be repaired. We paid a deposit and on the way out of there premises decided to re check the caravan. We found more issues , damaged window stained carpets and more. We decided to bad to buy however the company basically say tuff luck as you paid holding deposit. I run a company and always refund a unhappy customer however this company just don’t care . STAY AWAY

“Excellent recent customer service”

In March this year we bought a Bailey Pegasus 554 from Lancaster but due to my mother suffering a heart attack in July it was clear that the caravan layout no longer suited us. We had used the company twice before at Lancaster but decided to visit Standish, which is closer to home than our seasonal pitch in Cumbria. I visited the Standish site in the hope of changing vans even though we were only 5 payments into our finance agreement. We met the salesman and explained our reasoning for the need to change. He was superb throughout, showed us numerous layouts and not once did we feel as though we were pressured into a quick decision. He also provided practical advice as this was a huge decision and one we needed to get right. We opted for the Bailey Unicorn Valencia, he sorted all the refinancing of the new van and ensured all the lose ends with the previous van were sorted out and we took a new finance agreement out. He gave us a full demonstration of the new van but more so he made us feel wanted and welcome as a customer throughout the process and delivered an outstanding customer experience. We cannot thank the person I dealt with enough for his time, knowledge and his friendly nature which would leave me with no problem in recommending Stewart Longton at Standish. A massive thank you to him for all his help from all the family.

“The Best In 2 Years”

★★★★★

written by shaunm1963 on 17/10/2017

Just over 2 years ago we started a camping spree, buying tents and going off into the wild beyond (well North Wales). Wanting a little bit more we bought a caravan. Nervous, it didn't last long. We traded in for a trailer tent from a certain Manchester dealer. We felt, from our perspective, that the item itself and the service we received were pretty poor. We soon moved on to a very small caravan, the type that is very compact and comes from place near the South West coast of Lancashire. The item itself was OK but had it's issues. The service we received left us fuming. We got rid and decided to try again with a proper caravan. After travelling around the North West for a while, looking into some pretty smelly and unpleasant (second hand vans) we arrived at a place we should have gone to immediately: Stewart Longton. The Chorley branches didn't have what we could afford (but we drooled and dreamed...) so we moved on to the Standish branch. There we were treated with exceptional customer service by G. He was knowledgeable, courteous, friendly and made a superior cup of coffee for us (I forgot to ask for the name of the brand). G listened to our sorry tale, talked us through a 'van that we were interested in, gave us time alone (no pressure), and when it came to it made us a truly incredible deal. We added a few extras (necessary and reasonably priced), shook hands and the deed was done. We collected our 'van on the 10th October 2017. G gave us a full handover and saw us on our way. The reason we're writing this review here is because we don't 'do' Facebook. The reason we're writing it so late in the day (sorry G) is because we've been too busy 'playing' with our new toy. If shopping for caravans was like shopping for food, we'd be at Stewart Longton (Standish and Chorley) every day. Many thanks to G and all at Stewart Longton. We believe that we're at the end of our 2 year journey and can face the next long one ahead happy!

“Excellent After Sales Service”

written by GrahamTrish on 13/09/2017

My wife and I took delivery of a 2015 caravan from the Standish branch in early June this year. The service we received from the person I dealt with at the Standish branch and the man at the Chorley branch during the purchase was excellent. They were both extremely helpful answering all our questions without hesitation as this was our first caravan purchase. We have spent several weeks away in our caravan enjoying every minute. On our last outing we found that the kitchen sink was leaking behind the refrigerator. We phoned the person I dealt with at Standish who tried to help over the phone but unfortunately we could not effect the repair and he immediately offered to rectify the problem. We took the caravan back to Standish where the problem was resolved whilst we waited. We would have no hesitation in recommending Stewart Longton for all your caravanning needs.

“Caravan Purchase”

★★★★★

written by Whitwham on 25/04/2017

We bought a caravan from Stewart Longton and they held it for us for quite a few weeks with a deposit no problem. When we arrived to pick the van up, it was spotless and had been cleaned thoroughly. He took over an hour showing us the electrics, gas etc and even turned them on to show they worked. They ordered us a part (drawer that had been damaged slightly) to be forwarded on and had already installed a new part on the cooker. We were offered more than one refreshment and all the staff were polite, efficient and more than happy to show us around and field questions. We were also advised to contact them direct if we did have any problems or any further questions on our return home. We had no problems whatsoever and would recommend anyone to deal with them. In fact we will be using them for the yearly service in the future.

It was [name removed] that gave instructions on how to use the electrics and gas. He should be mentioned for the thought and clear concise way in which he delivered this information. He did not rush things and made sure that we fully understood all aspects. Well done Eddie and thank you.

“Disappointed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by johnbwfc1 on 02/05/2016

Purchased a Swift Challenger Sport from this dealer, happy with the van and it was a good price. I was initially offered £6,500 for my van (book value) but this was reduced to £6,000 on inspection because of some damp issues which they made an issue of. The salesman (Daryl) said my van would be advertised for £9,000 but they would take £8,000 for it (internet price). I accepted the £6,000 and paid my deposit. I went back to the dealer's a week later and my van was being advertised for nearly £10k with an internet price of nearly £9k, a thousand pounds more than I originally had been told!!!! When I questioned this I was given a load of old bull about profit margins, VAT, cost of damp repairs etc...... I forgot to add that my van was described on the website as being in fantastic condition and has since been sold. The dealer also told me that to keep the warranty the van had to be serviced by a Swift dealer, Swift have confirmed in an email that this is not the case. As long as the service centre/engineer is NCC registered Swift will accept the service has been carried out to there standards. When I picked up my new van I told the salesman that I didn't like being lied to and that I would never use Stewart Longtons again for anything, but they were not bothered. I even refused to accept the free hitch cover because I don't want to advertise for them.

“Saved by the sales exec”

★★★☆☆

written by MarquisSutton on 27/04/2016

We went to purchase our caravan from Stewart Longton Caravans in Lancaster & the deal was Lancasteer'ok'. I would have liked more money for my part exchange but I suppose we all would. There were issues with the caravan we were looking at purchasing; upon arriving to look at it it hadn't been cleaned, the outside was dirty and there were missing parts inside. Thankfully the sales man we were allocated was more than willing to ensure these issues were rectified, I get the impression the rest of the staff weren't so keen!! All in all the very efficient sales man (tall chap) ensured that everything went smoothly, that everything we had mentioned was rectified and we gave us an absolutely fantastic service. The younge men who appeared to be working in the workshop were rude and inappropriately behaved for a workplace and in my mind let the place down. But all in all I would go back and buy another caravan from the same chap - he did a great job!

“Awful After Sales Support”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DavePrid on 31/03/2016

In July 2015 we saw a motorhome for sale on line at Stewart Longton, Bolton Le Sands, Carnforth. We live in Hampshire but after discussion with the sales team we placed a deposit and two days later drove to Lancashire. We bought the motorhome and returned a week later to pick it up. We stayed local for the first night and returned with a few minor issues which the workshop put right straight away. We had two issues which required parts being ordered by Longtons which were then going to be posted directly to us. Despite numerous phone calls and emails we have still not received the items promised. We are very disappointed in the company, it would appear once they get your money and you live at the other end of the Country you just get forgotten. It is over 8 months since we purchased our motorhome, shocking, shocking service, you should be ashamed. I would not buy another motorhome from Stewart Longton.

I recently bought a motorhome from Stewart Longton Chorley and could not have been happier with the experience. They were very helpful, without being pushy. Once bought, we have had a few minor problems, all have been sorted without any hesitation. I would definitely recommend them!

“Nothing's been a problem at SLC STANDISH”

★★★★★

written by Jjbshighfield on 16/01/2016

As our first venture into caravanning, we were unsure what we needed. having looked round a few dealers, and starting to become disheartened, we went to SLC at Standish. They were helpful but not pushy, provided advice on what we needed. We had a couple of small issues that required attention on the van and we asked them to make them right prior to collection. This was no trouble and on collection the van was perfect or close to it for a 8 year old van! The handover was very thorough, all aspects of the caravan were explained and demonstrated, which gave us peace of mind that everything was in working order. We paid for a 12 month warranty and after 4 months, we found the front of the Truma heater came off on a return journey. We tried to fix this ourself, with no joy. We spoke to him and he said "bring it down and we'll sort it while you wait". nothing is a problem, We have just had them service our caravan, prior to the warranty expiring (there suggestion), no issues found and service first class again. Would have no hesitation in buying another caravan from them or recommending.

“Our new dealer!”

★★★★★

written by djh112 on 09/08/2015

After having a number of problems with a previous dealer its nice to have found a company that looks after their customers. Bought our caravan 12 months ago, sales team really looked after us, our salesman Daryl gave us a full demo of the van and sorted a couple of jobs that we wanted fixing free of charge. shop staff were extremely helpful on the day of collection and gave us a discount on all our purchases. What a great start. Brought the van in for its first service last week and once again well looked after by the company and its service department. would 100% recommend this company to deal with.

“After Sales Service”

Bought a new caravan from this dealer. After sales care poor. Ended up resolving problems myself as found it difficult making contact with service department. Left van for service on Saturday as arranged with service department but nobody from service available Saturday and was told by shop assistant that the van was to be left at my own risk...? I now take my caravan to another dealer for service. Would not recommend...

“Honest Traders? I dont think so”

written by Disgusted-of-Lancashire on 18/02/2015

I asked Longtons Chorley for a valuation for my caravan. On the phone a Glass’s guide price of £4400 was quoted subject to inspection. When I brought the caravan to be inspected later in the day an employee looked at the caravan. The result of this inspection was, and I quote “this caravan is not for us. The scratches on the side will require a panel respray and the caravan smells strongly of dog which is difficult to get rid of.” I was offered £3000 which I accepted. The caravan was on sale, in exactly the same condition five days later , for £6695. This company will rip you off if you let them. BE WARNED

Stewartlontoncaravans's Response to Disgusted-of-Lancashire's Review

Written on: 09/08/2015

After discounting the caravan by £1200 which is what we do on every window price, carrying out a panel repair which incurred a £800 internal charge and days of intense valeting we would have managed to sell your caravan...

The difference between Trade and Retail prices in glasses guide (which is industry wide) is between £2000-£3000. We therefore didn't earn as much as we normally have to on your caravan to keep our establishment running.

We suggest next time you describe your caravan correctly in order to get a true valuation. We do not appreciate slander towards our honest family run company.

“Damp in van that they said had been done”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Richardsonvk57 on 03/10/2014

Saw a lovely caravan on internet just what we wanted. We travelled 250 miles to see it. Nothing was mentioned about damp at the time. The van was only 2 yrs old. We decided to buy it and were happy with it. None of the paperwork was given us until we had paid etc. we drove home with it and I read through the paperwork. I was mortified to see all this damp report. I immediately phoned Stewart longton and they said Don't know what your worried about it's been done. We took them at their word. We picked the van up in January 2014. We have just had our van checked over and the damp has NOT been dealt with.we were lied to by them. I would never ever have any dealings with this company again. It is costing us a lot of money to put the problem right which we told had been done. Don't go near them.

It seems that they are very keen to sell caravans but not to deal with any issues that may arise afterwards, I suspect that there is less profit in customer care

Exactly the same. Bought 2014 caravan January 2015. Game me paperwork and made sure every trace of previous owner was removed. Wouldn't tell me name for Cris so had to get Cris to phone them direct to get previous owners name to transfer registration. Had service done 12 months later and I have a lot of damp. Managed to find name written in pencil in service book and found the previous owner. The caravan went back to them by the previous owner because of the damp and all they did was a poor bodge job of filling the leak on awning rail with silicone and left the leak around the window on opposite side. Called them and they were surprised when I said I'd been in contact with previous owner and they asked me to bring van in. It will be 300 mile round journey. Having been on a caravan forum last week there are at least 4 of us have bought vans riddled with damp from them and they new when they were selling them. Complete and utter waste of time and not a family oriented company that they try to portray. Wouldn't want to belong to that family.
