“Put £2500 deposit on a caravan unfortunately due to...”

written by bailey1961 on 28/07/2021

Put £2500 deposit on a caravan unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel. Told that they where keeping £500 of the £2500 because they could as it was on the back of the sales form. Asked how they justified that amount told read the back of the order form. Was that annoyed that i went down to Ropers so they could justify to my face. Greeted by an arrogant man who delt with finance. Asked him to justify to my face that amount all he kept saying was its on the back sir. We havent done anything not on the back of the order form. Told the smarmy so called manager that they didnt explain anything he insisted they did. So my wife and myself are liers are we. I could understand £100 admin expences not £500 they have afterall got the same caravan to sell at the same price and as for the so called preperation done in their own workshop which would have to be done for the next buyer. Who insead of waiting 3 week for a caravan will be able to pick it up virtually straight away. Buy at your peril the new regime in Ropers is not like of old.

“extremely happy customers”

★★★★★

written by fiona53 on 02/05/2017

we recently traded our old caravan in at ropers. we were told a possible trade in price over the phone, but obviously that was if the van was as new - we knew it wasn't, so we knew the price would be lower. we were however very happy with the new trade in price and found this to be very fair. who in their right minds would buy a car unseen. we had had damp work done over the road at catterick caravans who had to re do it and still didn't solve the problem, all at our expense, and months of chasing them. A bodge a go job. I do not recommend going there. ropers staff were excellent. salesman: I.B, D: who showed us how to use the van, & S.A, who gave us a good fair price and has looked after us after the sale. we never felt under pressure to buy, no chase up calls over the 2 weeks we took to decide. we even had a worry while in the van this bank holiday weekend, they called us back and problem sorted - wasn't even a problem, just novice carful owners. yes, I would defiantly recommend ropers caravans, and personally, only be using them from now on.

“After sales service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by caravanmantwo on 23/04/2017

I purchased a brand new Bailey twin axle caravan from Ropers. At the time of purchase they were very friendly and helpful, only too pleased to take my money. At just over two years old the van developed a serious roof leak along the joint at the rear of the van. This is a fault Bailey's are fully aware of. There have been many blogs on the subject.I am led to believe that Bailey's have even introduced a modified joint to as a replacement. Even though this is a known problem ropers service Dept insisted that I bring my van in to thier workshop for inspection (a 75 mile round trip and a day off work) before they would process a warranty claim. They also said that even if a warranty claim was approved they could not carry out the work until July or August. I contacted them in mid APRIL. I asked them how I could leave the van with rain water poring in for 4 MONTHS. The reply was to take the van to another dealer. In other words $&*%$ off we don't want to know.

“Unrespectful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Makem69 on 24/07/2016

We owned an older caravan (23 years old), which we had serviced at Ropers Lesiure at Catterick Bridge. We expected to have problems with it due to age, but condition was very good for it's age. We turned up and they were fine face to face. Once the service was completed we had to phone for a report, even though I had left instructions for all repairs under £100 to be completed. They refused to do any repairs even small ones such as bulbs etc. The report was quite lengthy with plenty niff naff which they made as if were vital as well as major faults. They said that they would contact us to give quotes for all jobs, but never did. We had to repeatedly phone and visit to try and get some sort of communication from them. We left the caravan there for them to be able to carry out these repairs as soon as a technician was available with a months limit of time, but they left it till the last day of that time to carry out out any work. One of this was a gas leak investigation, which once completed they actually did phone to tell me the bad news, but not with any quotes. They said due to its age they will get in touch with them. Guess what, two weeks later, no phone calls. We had to continually chase them for information and quotes and then when we said no to the work as we believed they were stringing it out and messing us around they got rally abrupt saying that we had to pick up caravan asap cause it been there for 6 weeks. The only reason for it being their was for them to work on it, which they avoided and didn't contact us. When we got home with caravan we noticed that the caravan was in a worse state than it left us with broken door catch, smashed side light cover and broken window. Also despite being in for a service the water system had not been fully checked which was obvious and had ripped ope the curtains and not returned them to there runners. We feel that while the caravan was in there possession they did not care for it at all and were disrespectful to us as customers

hi to all that have left poor ratings .I think it is fair that there is all ways two sides to a story witch I could put up a case for all the reviews on roper. I would like to say at this point that people that put reviews on the internet should put there names so that we cant look into there points. The points that most reviews are about p\x prices we give a price on what the people tell us,then they bring van in and sides are hanging off, damp and not what they had explained to us when buying van at this point we will re price the caravan, so that's not ropers fault but it seems to be on the reviews. People who have any problems with the van should ring, email or call in for us to sort out we help anyone.

Dealr's Response to steveallerston's Review

Written on: 02/03/2016

We people do ring about problems and just go round in circles.

It is impossible to resolve issues with you as your whole attitude towards your customers is disgusting. You always try and find a way to riggle out of a problem, making it out to be the customers fault, when it clearly isn't. No respect for the customer what so ever.

I'm not commenting about px issues, but the whole buying and aftercare experience.

Please think twice before handing you cash to them. Bailey should be more selective about who the let sell they're new caravans.

Poor grammar and poor expression. This does not present a good image of Ropers. I just hope that I experience a sales person who can relate a bit better to customers, when I collect my caravan!

“Caravan part ex”

★★☆☆☆

written by Kierstena468 on 30/05/2015

We bought a caravan last year privately, to go and see if it was the way forward for our holidays in the future. Really enjoy the life and decided to up grade. Found a really cracking caravan at ropers, agreed a deal on our part ex and a date when the new caravan would be ready. Went to collect it and go through the hand over process, to say I am not a happy bunny is an under statement. Three sales staff to do one inspection, then come up with every issue possible for a 16 yr old caravan, they then walk off and leave me with the original sales man who goes into a spiel of "well its got some issues and were struggling to justify the part ex price" We had already said on the original deal that the caravan had a few dings and issues etc including damp in places, they assured us this was no issue as they sell them all day long to the road gangs for accommodation etc. They wanted to knock the the price on the part ex back by a £1000, had to haggle to get this to £750 instead. If this had been a piece of machinery for work in my business I would of told them to shove it where the monkey keeps his nuts, But they know there are wife's and families involved and play on the fact you have them to consider. I went and got the remaining money in cash for them and then had to sit in a room while they counted it and checked each note regards fake money etc. there was no leisure battery with the caravan, but you can buy one in there store, "I dont think so" the pin on the van is multi Pin, mine is 7, never checked it prior to sale. Unknown to them I had also planned to go and buy an awning for the caravan there on the day, that will not be happening now. Pretty gutted really, and put a complete damper on the day, we went there because they were recommended as a family firm who care, but not so. They even did the old "Ill have to see if the boss will agree to the price and come back to you when they haggled on the trade in" Dear me what an out fit they are.

“Be very careful if you buy here”

Bought a second hand caravan at the end of last season and parked it up over winter we used it for the first time in the April bank holiday when we used the handles to move the van off a slightly soggy pitch cracks appeared around the handle and rear lights when we looked closer the van has been damage repaired. The van received a full service and warranty from Ropers and this fault was so obvious around the rear stabiliser it must have been seen during the body inspection but the service manager denies all knowledge. The slightest mention of consumer rights got his back right up looks like I am in for a fight CHECK IT AND CHECK AGAIN WATCH OUT FOR THE SERVICE MANAGER

“Gone Right Down Will Never Use Again”

written by 383McCullough on 14/04/2015

Purchased a secondhand caravan cash from Ropers Caravans. Upon arriving to pick our caravan up went right down hill absolutely disgusted. Thought like last time we purchased a caravan from them we would be shown round the caravan, things explained to us. Oh no asked to hook up paperwork then away. One bit of paper was to sign to say we had been shown round things explained etc, refused to sign it. Comment was oh its OK sold as seen secondhand so no problem. If I hadn't asked if the leg winder was inside looked no, granted salesman went and got new one from the shop. Caravan bare no gas regulator, no leasuire battery, not even a step, no gas bottle nothing Caravan shell. Will never use again could and will buy from the auction sites or private as not worth paying the extra £1000 asked at a dealers. Last time we bought we got shown all around the caravan, came with a welcome pack and shown things working. How times have changed maybe get better service if you buy nice multi thousand pound caravan eh.

I have bought from both Ropers and a company called Lowdhams.

Once Ropers had got our deposit theyre attitude changed. They agreed to things, but argued and refused later because it hadn't been wrote down.

The manager was out of order and didn't care about us at all. He tried to twist things and wriggle out of it.

I worry about the warranty as going by they're customer service, I doubt they would sort any issues out without a fight.

Lowdhams on the other hand were fantastic and I would highly recommend them. They are in a completely different league.

“Unhelpful service manager”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tzMcKenna2 on 01/02/2015

I bought my caravan secondhand from ropers, the sales team and the owner were very pleasant and very helpful.a fault we found within the first month was dealt with without any complaints. However after a year had passed with no faults to the caravan I decided to have the tyres changed for age not condition. When an independent fitter removed the tyres he found the Tyron bands rusted and unusable.ropers fitted the bands when the caravan was new so I contacted the service manager for advice. This is when the extent of the ropes help became apparent. After trying to blame the compressor that inflated the tyres for putting water into them via the air (used by the previous owners)they were not willing to help us,when I asked to speak to his superior he told me he was in charge of all the roper departments and that there was no one else to speak to and then proceeded to tell me how important he was and suggested I went down to the shop and speak to him face to face, all I wanted was some advice.I have since spoke to Tyron and they have replaced the bands free of charge without any hassle at all. I will not use or recommend ropers again due to nothing else than the managers terrible attitude

“Great people, excellent service!”

Having found our ideal caravan we decided to part with our beloved oldie and trade her in. Ropers Caravns gave us a really good part ex price and a 3 year warranty on our new (new to us) caravan. After much counting the pennies we decided to go ahead with the deal. However, when we arrived on change over day there was a problem with our caravan that we were unaware of! The guys at Ropers were brilliant, very civilised and to cut a long story short we could still afford our new van We would recommend this family firm to anyone looking for a used caravan, they really make you feel that they care about their reputation. Thanks guys!
