Walter6's review of Perthshire Caravans, Errol, Perthshire

“Totally negative and uninterested”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Walter6 on 04/07/2015

After enjoying a couple of days at a caravan site in beautiful Perthshire, my wife and I were returning home with our caravan when the near side wheel detached from the van. Fortunately, I was able to control the stop. We were both shaken, but thankfully no one was hurt.
With the able assistance of Perthshire police, and the recovery company sent to assist us the van was safely off the road, and onto the back of the recovery vehicle. On an initial inspection there appeared to be potential damage to the nearside drum, and motor mover. The recovery company decided it would be better if a specialist had a look to confirm the damage. He decide to take the van to Perthshire Caravans, which was only about 20 miles away from the incident.
On arrival someone from the maintenance department confirmed that the drum was damaged, and informed us that in his opinion it would be dangerous to take the van back on the road. I asked if it would be possible for them to fully assess the damage, and possibly carry out the repairs. I informed him that the time scale would not be a problem.
Several other official looking people from the offices suddenly appear on the scene. I was told in no uncertain terms by one of them that they did not have time to carry out any repairs, and the van had to remain on the recovery vehicle, and taken off site.
I said that I understood that they could not carry out the repairs, but pleaded with them allow me to offload the van for the short duration it would take for me to organise a company to carry out the work, and transport to take the van to that location. I offered to pay for storage costs for the time it would take. They became totally intransigent, and insisted that we leave the site.
The recovery company, to their credit took the van back to their premises. Even though they were busy, and their yard was about a fifth the size of Perthshire caravans, they allowed us to store the van for the short duration it took for me get things organised with another dealership. The van was in their yard for a week, and although they were entitled to do so, took no payment for this service.
" By their fruits you will know them" goes the saying. In the case of the police, and the recovery company they proved to be both professional, and sympathetic to our plight. Perthshire Caravans, on the other hand proved to be totally negative, and uninterested.
Making money at the front end of the business by selling Vans and Motorhomes is fine, but to dismiss service at the other end, including those in distress is just not right, and in the end bad for business.
If you decide to buy from these people, after reading this and other reviews then Good luck to you. I hope your experience turns out to be better than mine.

Perthshirecaravans's Response to Walter6's Review

Thanks for your feedback. We are sorry you feel that our staff were unhelpful. Your caravan had been serviced by another dealer and, owing to the nature of the incident that occurred, this is an issue that they needed to address for you. We do not have a storage facility at our premises. - Perthshire Caravans
