We bought a Bailey senator series 6 California last year,we were also provided with a warrenty ,When we bought the van we told the salesman that we have never towed a caravan ,had no intention of towing ,and tha it would be sited in one place ,they even delivered the caravan to our chosen site as part of the deal ,he said the warrenty was bullit proof ,everything would be sorted if anything went wrong ,Well something did go wrong ,we had the van for 6 weeks of use ,then it was shut down for the winter ,unfortunately on our return we hah water Ingres through a faulty window seal ,causing water staining to the front pot stand ,we contacted glossop ,to be told get someone to look at the damage get an estimate then contact the warranty ,we did all that from a local vat registered dealer ,sent off the claim ,only for it to be rejected ,We phoned glossop to be told ,fetch the caravan in and we will sort it ,we explained again that we don't tow ,or have any means of towing the caravan ,and asked why we couldn't use the local dealer who was only too happy to do the repair ,Now if you look in the warranty booklet it actually states that you can use a local dealer as long as it's vat registered ,but all glossop kept saying fetch it in and we will sort it ,to have towed to glossop was 175 pound each way ,to have it towed to our local dealer it was 45 pound each way,no Brainer really ,but not according to glossop ,it's there way or no way ,I'm afraid,so as a first time buyer of a caravan our experience of glossop is rubbish ,I wouldn't recommend them to anyone ,

After bringing my new caravan home I discovered 3 or 4 things missing. I contacted the salesman who put me in touch with the service department. All of my emails were answered promptly and the missing items were put on order. I now have the missing items and have thanked the adviser in the service department for her help. I would definitely recommend them everyone was very helpful.

Glossop Caravans sold me a Buccaneer Argossy this year. No pre-delevary inspection was carried out. There was a gas leak, the heating made a horrible noise and the sales rep said that was normal. It does not work now. the person I dealt with even had the gaul to say to me he did not sell me the caravan I bought it. He said items were included when they are actually missing. Hodges was trying to be clever I think. Problem is I have his receipt slip confirming he sold the caravan. A complaint was made to the general manager and despite being told he would contact me, today he has not bothered to do so. Fortunately I bought the caravan via finance so am protected and the finance company and Financial Ombudsman are now involved and ma instructing solicitors next week (September 2015) to take action against Glossop for breach of contract and selling a dangerous caravan. They were giver weeks to sort the problem out but to date 23 Sept have done nothing other than repair the gas leak. I would not buy from them and make sure you do on finance so you are fully protected against them selling dangerous goods.

Couldn't rate zero and leave a comment so had to give an undeserved 1 star! Great caravan, appalling after sales! As soon as we signed on the dotted line the salesman couldn't get rid of us quick enough! Now we've just driven over to pick the caravan up as it needed some warranty work doing on it, only to be told (after a phone call telling us it was ready to pick up) that most of the work hasn't been done as the parts hadn't arrived they're going to send us the parts so we can do the work ourselves!!! I wouldn't mind but they rang us in the first place to say everything was here! The only work they did was change 2 flickering lights and guess what....... still flickering! That's 2 wasted Saturday mornings spent taking the caravan over from Sheffield and picking it back up. Anyone care? Certainly no one at Glossop...

We got our new van from Glossops today, and I would just like to say how good the handover was. Sadly I was 45 minutes latebut I rang Glossops and explained , where they told myself not to panic they would see me when I arrived. On arrival I was told to park the car and go to the handover office next to the shop. This we did were we we're greeted by a lovely lady who informed me that a chap is available and would be doing my handover. He came in and took my wife and myself over to our new van. Everything was connected, gas, water and electrics. He had the heater on and the water piping hot. He gave us a very extensive talk on how everything worked, which lasted about an hour and 30 minutes. Constantly asking if my wife or myself had any questions. He then left us for a while and advised us to check everything on the inside of the van and outside, and if there was any problems he would sort them out on his return. There was a couple of niggles and he got an engineer to come over and sort out. We told him we were very pleased with our new van and he told us to go and get a cuppa while he sorted our number plate out. I know people on this thread have had problems( and I am so sorry you have) with Glossops, but I can only speak on my own personnel dealings with them. And I have to say I found them to of been excellent throughout. They even helped my wife and I putting our tow cover on, which was a nightmare, but they would not leave us even though it was nearly home time. It was extremely busy which I could imagine some people might find of putting, but they are a massive dealership and I think it is to be expected the amount of business they do. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody, and if I am fortunate enough and decide in a couple of years to upgrade to another van, I would gladly return to Glossops.

I recently purchased a used caravan from these guys, a cracking little 2 berth Elddis Avante. I originally found the caravan on the internet, and living close by, decided to go and have a look at the caravan as it was advertised as in pristine condition.

I too have been on the receiving end of terrible service by Glossop Caravans. My honest advice to anyone considering buying from them is to stay well away! I was supplied a brand new caravan full of faults, still not completely rectified approaching 6 months later. More recently I have found evidence of dents to the new caravan roof. Glossop was aware of the damage having signed documents to this effect prior to my purchase (which I have since obtained). Having now presented these issues to them Glossop have continually failed to offer any resolution. I will be filing detailed reports and correspondence in due course: suffice to say be careful if you're considering both Glossop Caravans or an Elddis/ Buccaneer. I've had a nightmare! Now looking forward to a protracted legal case dragging Glossop Caravans through the courts. You have been warned!

Hello.
My Name is Danny and as you can probably see from other reviews I work at Glossop Caravans, answering the reviews.
What you was told at the show was not true and is certainly not the way our sales reps usually operate, nor is not the policy of the company to make such statements. I can only offer our apologies for this. We are a well established business, trading for over 37 years, and we are big believers in returning customers and recommendations as well. Therefore we take all feedback seriously, and we will be looking into what has happened in your particular case.
It would help if you could contact myself at Glossop Caravans and let me know who it was that you spoke to.

We ordered a caravan at the show via the advisor, all I can say is how helpful he was. We've ordered a sterling eccles sport and he helped us through the process with our p/x and our extras we require.
Keep up the good work

Ordered a factory new Swift Sundance 644 in August with a few extras. Was told to arrange insurance etc. I duly paid my deposit. Was told verbally that the vehicle would be ready for collection on the 20th of September 2013. This was followed up with a formal letter and pack confirming that that a couple of days later. Therefore I made arrangement to go to France in the motorhome on the 2nd of October. Took the family up to stay at a nearby hotel on the 19th of September, ready to pick the vehicle up. Went to collect on the 20th, the vehicle was in the workshop having extras fitted and was not ready. The log book was not present and Glossop claimed that its arrival was imminent (nothing was further from the truth, they hadn't even applied for the log book at this time). Wasted 2 days of work, fuel and hotel fees. I was then informed that DVLA had registered the vehicle on the 26th of September, and we waited, waited, and waited, but the documents did not arrive. Enquiries with the DVLA ascertained that Glossop had in fact registered the vehicle to the incorrect address, we made enquiries there and the documents were not present. On the 2nd of October the log book finally arrived at my address, and I immediately contacted Glossop, and arrangements were made to take delivery on the 15th of October. I asked them to confirm that everything was ok, and if there were anymore mistakes, etc I would cancel the purchase. Again I bought the family up by taxi from North Wales the day before and stayed in a nearby hotel. On my arrival, the following items were missing and broken from motorhome. Fitted TV aeriel which was ordered on the 3oth of August. A double mattress, a second leisure battery. There was damage to an overhead locker which had been clobbered, and someone had placed selotape over the damage to try and conceal it (laughable really), and the panel inside the gas cylinder compartment has split and again taped up in a very amateur fashion. Their response was - these things happen. It was our intention to go to the Lake District, but again a spoilt holiday - thanks Glossop. Although the staff here are courteous over the phone, there is clearly a communication problem in their business. There is also a lack of care, and a serious lack of urgency. I pulled out of the sale, and they are withholding a £4,000 deposit. On top of this I have lost a family holiday, 4 days work, numerous hours on the phone and e mails on top of the deposit. They even had the cheek to ask for the log book as we left the premises. Luckily the log book is in my name, and it will be a criminal offence if they try to forge my signature, and falsify documents. I will of course return the log book duly signed once I am adequately compensated. They have until Monday the 21st of October before I file papers against them at Caernarfon County Court. This will be a very embarrassing and expensive process for them, and all members of staff involved in this debacle will be called to give evidence.

We too have similar experience with this company. Ordered a 2014 Elddis Aspire 255 motor home last Oct for delivery mid Nov as we had planned a 3month trip to Europe from early Dec. To date (30/12/2013) I am still awaiting the vehicle to get registered after 3 bungled attempts by Glossop at completing the correct paperwork to send to the DVLA. In addition, we also made a long journey to Glossop to be shown the workings of the vehicle whilst waiting for it to be registered, only to find when we arrived that there was no one on site who knew anything about this m'home. All this time we have been fed wrong information concerning the delay in registration. There is absolutely no genuine customer care and what was supposed to be an exciting experience has turned into a wholly nightmare which I just want to end. Unfortunately I have paid for the vehicle in full now so I am completely at their mercy . I should, therefore, be interested to learn the outcome of your court case against this Company.

I trust that you will not remove this review as I have been informed by other people that this is what you do. I bought a Rufford Porch Awning in Jan 2013 at The Caravan Show and waited until May 2013 for it to be delivered. This awning was faulty as was it's replacement. The customer service I have received from Glossop Caravans is appalling, I was told to deal with the manufacturer directly even though I purchased it from Glossop Caravans. This matter has been ongoing since Jan 2013 and we are now nearly in October 2013. I have asked for a full refund and have been contacted by the Awnings Dept manager who was very flippant, advised me to contact my consumer rights dept as he wasn't going to give me a refund. He had a conversation with someone across the office whilst I waited for him to get the correct details and then said he's e mail me a 'proposal' - very rude man!!! I'm still waiting for him to put something together ( his words!!) Terrible customer service!!!!!

The delivery date was late because Gateway had not received the New Rufford Porch awnings until May, and the lady in question insisted on having the demonstration model for her holiday, reluctantly we sent it to her and it turned out that it was not in perfect condition. Gateway then replaced it with a New Rufford Porch awning that has been used for her other holidays. There is a tiny hole in the canvas which is a burn hole from a hot needle(this would not stop you from being able to use the awning)
The lady referred to me shouting across the office to someone, this was in-fact our aftersales administrator whom I was consulting with to try and ascertain if she had any dealings with Mrs Johnston.
This lady has been offered a replacement, or a credit to the full amount to spend on any other awning. Because we have not offered a complete refund in Cash the lady said, she was going to contact the consumer rights department, to which we have said that is your right as a customer to contact the consumer rights department.
We hope to come to a sensible and reasonable agreement with this lady and have written to her to confirm the offer above, which was given to her straight away and Gateway have even offered her a £25 discount for her inconvenience

In reply to the above I would like to clarify the following:
We purchased the Rufford porch awning in Jan 2013 and were given 1st March as the expected delivery date. Glossop Caravans did not contact us at any point to inform us of this delay,
I was very patient (not like me!!) and eventually rang them in May 2013 as I was going on holiday and wanted to use my new awning (not an unreasonable wish given that I believed I had ordered it in plenty of time!!! ). I spoke to a very nice gentleman who informed me that I could have a display awning they had in store, he assured me it was in perfect condition and i received it within a few days - there was no insistence on my part and the said gentleman didn't seem at all reluctant to supply the display awning.
When I put the awning up I discovered a flaw and a small hole in the material, I immediately contacted Glossop Caravans and visited their store, I provided a picture of the fault and was informed that I would have to contact the manufacturer direct. I did this and they collected the awning. After a further lengthy wait I was given a replacement awning along with the skirt for around the caravan, which was missing from the first awning. I discovered a hole in this awning and again contacted the manufacturer. I have since spent a further 3 months trying to get this matter rectified. I eventually requested a full refund - very fed up at this point!!
I was told to contact Glossop Caravans, which I did, I was informed by Mr Laing that Glossop Caravans don't give refunds and when I objected to this and informed him I would contact my local consumer rights office he responded 'I think you should, as we won't be giving you a refund'.
In response to Mr Laing's comment about his consultation with his aftersales administrator I can only say that this was a very loud consultation and at the very least unprofessional, I would expect someone in a managerial position to be informed of all the facts before dealing with a customer complaint.
Mr Laing did offer me a replacement, which I refused as is my legal right. Neither Gateway Leisure or Glossop Caravans dispute that both awnings had holes in them (i have photographic evidence) and the Sale of Goods Act 1979 states that if goods supplied are faulty, the consumer has a legal right to a full refund. Not if you buy faulty goods from Glossop Caravans it seems. I did contact my local consumer rights office (very helpful indeed) and would advise anyone with a similar problem with Glossop Caravans to do the same.
To summarise, I have been sold TWO faulty awnings and have endured 9 months of hassle, have had to make over 30 telephone calls, visit the store in person and speak to several members of staff from both Glossop Caravans and Gateway Leisure. I have indeed been offered a credit, replacement and 'even' a £25 discount. I have refused all of these options, 'even' the £25 discount for my inconvenience because all I wanted was a hole free awning to enjoy on my holidays without all the hassle!!
SITUATION ONGOING - will keep you posted re: the sensible, reasonable outcome!!!!!

Once signed they are not interested in faults even though its a brand new van and promises made! 3 months on travelled 160 miles for 2 pre arranged appointments and still no further on. My advise stay clear and if you do buy from them just pray you wont need after sales service....as there isn't any!

We are long standing caravaners and have purchased caravans both new and second hand from many dealers. We went to Glossop caravans to see what they had in stock a round trip of 130 miles. What a total waste of time. The stock we viewed was damaged, I would never buy a van with so many dints in, this was not one may I add but 90% of what we saw. This included damage to the shell, interior and even one shower tray was split wide open. One oven we looked in was disgusting to say the least. Now it maybe that all these faults would have been put right if we had purchased a van, but it me it speaks volumes of the care the van had received by the previous owners. The prices did not in anyway reflect the quality of the stock. We viewed vans up to £12000 and felt this was cheap money to Glossop! The sales people we had the pleasure in encountering (NOT) first lines ranged from " you've been in this van so long you've got to buy it now" maybe just a joke to start the ball rolling so to speak, you make your own mind up. The next one we saw was running after a customer who had walked away from a deal with "my boss wants your business and if you sign today we'll knock off ex amount" this in full view and sound of everyone near by. I thought this very unprofessional and somewhat Arthur Daily. The lads in the workshop as we walked past thought it ok to stop work and stair at my wife!!!!! We just couldn't wait to leave the site. Oh also we almost got run over by their van towing a caravan on site. The culture on site from everyone we came into contact with was so bad we in no way would but anything from them, the only chap who was polite and pleasant was the car-park chap. It maybe a case of too large a company to careless about one customer????

Here at Glossop Caravans we take all potential customer comments very seriously. Glossop Caravans is just like any other caravan dealer, in that some of the used stock has minor damage. You are correct in assuming that faults including bodywork are rectified as part of the Pre Delivery Inspection that our caravans receive prior to despatch to the new owner. To fix these faults before the caravan goes on sale is just not practical for us, and I am sure every other caravan dealer.
We are proud of our family run business with sales in the main coming from existing customers and recommendations from our many satisfied customers. This is our 38th year in business, and the business continues to go from strength to strength.

We went to Glossop caravans on Wednesday 26th June to look at a Sterling Amethyst 5 berth and decided to buy it with collection on Thursday 4 July as we are going to Scotland on Saturday 6 July. The salesman was full of promises saying it would be in the workshops 3 days before delivery date to ensure it was all ready. HA HA HA At 1/4 to 4 on Wednesday afternoon we got a phone call saying the caravan would not be ready until Friday. I spoke to the workshop manager who couldn't care less, the sales manager who was even less interested and demanded to speak to a director but had to make do with the senior manager on site who just could not give two hoots about anybody and plans. Apparently we have had a phone call earlier in the week explaining that "we are awaiting spares". Well if you hadn't butchered the caravan as a spares store in the first place it wouldn't need spares would it. They couldn't say who they spoke to or when they called (odd that). The problem is they are too big to worry about anyone cancelling. DON'T USE THEM

My wife and I had arranged to pick up our new caravan from Glossop Caravans on Friday 31 May 2013 - we ended up sleeping in our van in the yard and it took us 27 hours before we could leave. We had ordered the van a couple of weeks earlier - a brand new Eldis Avante Chatsworth (to be supplied directly from the factory) and we had agreed that we would arrive to collect it on the 31st. We had agreed the fitment of a particular motor mover and the caravan was supposed to come with iDC anti snaking device as standard. When we arrived we were kept waiting as it was clear that the van was not ready. It turned out that the iDC was not fitted to the van and the incorrect motor mover had been fitted. It became clear that the van would not be available to take away that day. We grudgingly agreed to sleep in the van in Glossop Caravans yard - not a pleasant place. We were advised that the van would be sorted and we would be able to leave by 9am on the Saturday. We had to cancel our campsite booking for that night. We were told that we would have to leave our car on the road in the industrial estate opposite Glossop Caravans site. This didn't look a particularly safe place. At 9am on the Saturday It was decided that an iDC would be taken from another caravan in the yard and fitted to our van and also, very grudgingly, that the correct motor mover would be fitted. We sat about waiting and by lunchtime our new van was back in the yard from the service centre. Upon asking it became clear that the replacement motor mover wasn't working. This necessitated further work fitting a replacement controller. We eventually hitched up to our new van after 2pm - by then no one was willing to show us how the tow hitch or iDC worked or why extra wiring had been fitted to a socket on the tow hitch. The lady taking our payment for the van gave us an unbelievably insincere apology for the inconvenience. We then headed off to our week in Scotland eventually arriving at our campsite at about 9pm. The motor mover wouldn't work. So we manhandled the van into position. We fitted a replacement leisure battery and got the mover working. We reported the fault with the battery to the senior sales person we had dealt with at Glossop Caravans. That is when he repeatedly accused us of theft of the battery saying that we should not have been provided with a battery and that it had not been sold to us.The battery had actually been fitted by the workshop when they fitted the motor mover. I asked the salesman to consider carefully what he was saying but he continued to repeat the claim and said that he would get whoever had fitted the battery sacked and that there was "no way" Glossop Caravans would replace the faulty battery as I had stolen it! I spoke to a more senior member of staff and eventually got an email apology. I was offered £120 compensation for the inconvenience I had experienced subject to me providing receipts for out of pocket expenses. To cap it all when the caravan registration documentation came through from CRIS I was shown as the second owner of the "new" van. The interior heater in the caravan doesn't work.

Purchased a caravan from this company. Worst money ever spent. The spec wasn't as advertised. The PDI was not properly carried out due to the initial faults found. The build quality was terrible. The van eventually developed damp in the first year. I was lied to about the work carried out, or more to the point not carried out. If only they listened to the customer.

I have given the repair department 1* the reason being trying to get them to do any repairs is a waste of time,we bought a secondhand van from them and part exchanged our old van.The first time out we had 16 things go wrong 13 of these were ticked as checked on the service sheet, but we ended up with a flooded caravan,no lights,no battery and the fridge door falling off plus other problems. When we returned home they arranged for it to be repaired 12 days later it still hadn't been done,so asked for a full refund plus our old van back this was agreed to,and the caravan we returned in bad need of repair when straight back on sale for more than £3,000, but when our van was brought back to the reception we had 2 blinds missing, half the toilet missing and no bunk bed,9 days later we were told these things had been rectified but when we arrived to pick up the van 1 blind was still missing, toilet didn't work and the bunk bed was made up of off cuts of cheap tacky ply wood.We asked for compensation for the bunk and the rest to be done properly. We were surprised to see the fitters fetching items from caravans that were for sale and repairing caravans in their workshop. The sales staff were brilliant so was a lady in the office,a pity that the rest of the staff are useless.

Recently my husband and I purchased a new Quest Blenheim awning from Glossop Caravans, we were very pleased with the service and all staff were pleasant, helpful, professional and knowledgable. We were surprised to be told we could try out the awning with our caravan to check it fitted okay, and if it didn't we could exchange it for another size - we tried it out on a dry day the following weekend and it fitted perfectly. The awning is excellent quality and the price we paid was value for money. A few days later we were back at Glossop Caravans to purchase a new airtex ground sheet and a water pump, we received the same courteous attention as before, and a bargain! We'll certainly visit them again for any other caravan needs, even though we live 60 miles away. Staff were clean and presentable, and how nice to see an assistant manager looking smart in a suit too! Thankyou for good service and good prices.

I have been using Glossop now for my last 3 caravans, and never had any reason to look anywhere else. They have always been friendly, and listened to my needs, and with the wide choice of caravans they have, I have never had any trouble finding the caravan I want. (I started with an old 2 berth, I now have bought a brand spanking new 5 berth Elddis) I always feel welcome there, and they always remember me, even on first name terms with them all! Can’t wait to pick up my new caravan in April, no doubt they will have the kettle on waiting for me when I arrive!

Purchased a lovely second hand Bailey Ranger from them a few weeks ago. Being new to caravans we were a little wary of buying from a private seller, so we decided to purchase from our local dealer. We explained to the sales person that we were new and he spent his time showing us around the caravans that he thought we would find suitable. We felt like we were taking up his time but he assured us this was not the case, and it seemed he couldn’t do enough for us! As soon as we found the Bailey we fell in love with it and decided that it was the one for us. The salesman showed us what the caravan does, even going so far as to hook the van up to the electric mains. After the thorough demonstration we were treated to a nice cup of coffee whilst the salesman worked out a deal for us. After a little bit of haggling we managed to get a starter pack and awning thrown in with the deal, all at no extra cost! Hand shook, and deal done! We only had to wait a week for our new caravan, and when we arrived for our handover we were amazed to find that the caravan was hooked up on electric, water and gas! We thought we were going to be given the ‘there’s your keys, off you pop’ treatment, but the chap who showed us around was just as helpful as the salesman. He showed us how to use the various controls clearly, and was extremely patient with us! There was a slight hitch when we picked up the awning, they couldn’t find the ground sheet, but this arrived in the post a couple of days ago. Yet to experience the aftersales service, but if our experience is anything to go by so far, I can’t see this causing any problems at all. Simply put, a highly professional, helpful and brilliant company which I will certainly be purchasing my next caravan from!

Following my threat of legal action from my solicitor, The general manager stated a Pre-delivery inspection was carried out and he was asked to provide proof, he failed. Glossop stated they repaired the gas leak and an independent inspection prooved, with photographs, the gas leak remained. This company was negligent. The sales man actually had the gall to tell me to go away as I was a horrible man. This is tantamount to gross misconduct.
He stated he would "buy the caravan off me". When I asked him how much he said £5000. What he wanted me to agree was to take the caravan back, have my deposit, loose the money I paid in finance and have no caravan. i'll let you readers decide if he was dishonest or not.
The lesson for those dealing with Glossop is never ever pay cash. Use a finance arrangement where you are afforded regulatory protection so the likes of them cannot try and lie their way out of a legal contract. The regulators will protect you.
The result of the legal threat was glossop have had to cave in and pay compensation rather than go to court and be faced with a court order. The Caravan is being sorted but not by Glossop, they were negligent.
