“Awful customer service and even worse car”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Emelia115 on 20/06/2014

4th June – went on autotrader, found the perfect car I was looking for, an Elle edition of the Peugeot 207 cc, 58 plate with 35000 miles. SG58 HCZ. Advertised at 6190. Rang the garage which was 30 miles away and to save time and money I paid the deposit there and then after being told that there was nothing wrong with the car. Was told to collect car on 10th June and bring my part ex with me.
9th June – voicemail received off the garage to say aircon doesn’t work so wont be ready on the 10th and will call back with more info next day
10th June – was called to say aircon and parking sensors do not work and car should now be ready on the 12th.
13th June – drove to the garage with part ex, went into the office to sort paper work which was all ready. Felt very rushed as it was 4.30pm on a Friday and didn’t get to go on a test drive unless I could come back and have it the next day instead. Didn’t want to drive all the way back again so I said it was fine. The garage’s card machine didn’t like my card even though there was more than enough money in the account and even rang the bank and they said everything was ok their end. As I didn’t want to come back again I was forced to pay on credit card and charged 2% on top. Wasn’t happy about this but I thought at least it would now be sorted.
Got into the car and the first problem I found was I couldn’t alter my wing mirrors as the button had been snapped off. But I drove it away as they all wanted to finish work and get rid of me. Got home and decided to test the roof. Roof didn’t shut properly and it came up on the dash that the roof mechanism was faulty. Thought it may possibly just be because it hadn’t been used for a while and I eventually managed to get it up again after a few tries.
17th June – Roof problem was getting worse and worse all the time, on this day I parked up on asda car park and tried to put the roof up 12 times and in the end I gave up and rang the garage. They told me to drive all the way back to the garage so they could look at it, so I put some petrol in and drove straight there. When I got there the feeling I got was that they were a bit put out by me having this problem. They told me to sit and wait for them to look at it. A guy came out about 40 minutes later and said there was nothing wrong with the roof but he had fixed my wing mirror problem. So I got back into the car and tested the roof, which still wasn’t working. Went back inside and after a lot of sighing they took the car for a second time to look at it, 20 minutes later he came back out and agreed that the roof wasn’t working but they don’t know what is up with it. They told me to take it to a Peugeot dealer and they will pay for the repair but wont pay for my petrol today.
18th June – drove the car to Peugeot where they fitted me in for Monday 23rd to find out what was wrong with the roof. Rang Hilton as a courtesy to let them know and was rudely interrupted several times in the call and said they will pay for Peugeot to look at it. I didn’t complain – not everyone has customer service skills so I didn’t care as long as it got sorted.
19th June – I was now using the car without putting the roof down so I wanted to go down to the shops. Got in the car and it wouldn’t start the engine. Rang Hilton who said that a recovery man would come out to help me get it started. When he turned up an hour and a half later he said he had been sent to take the car away back to Hilton. I rang Hilton and said this wasn’t good enough because I need a car and they said they had no courtesy cars available, so I’ve had to pay for taxis instead.
20th June – get a phone call from the operations manager to say the man who took my car away actually has damaged it and that it rolled back off the truck and is now all smashed at the back which will affect the lights and the roof and the bumper. He said he will pay me my money back, the trouble I then had is that I start work at my new job on Monday (23rd) which is 10 miles away so I was relying on this car that I had bought. The man said he couldn’t do anything to help me and when asked if he would swap it for the other Elle car instead he said no as this has less mileage than the one I bought. He was quite rude to me on the phone and very sarcastic especially when I told him about what this is all costing me in taxis and what id paid in petrol before. He told me I had to get a taxi to town to post with my own money the v5. When I complained about this he very sarcastically offered to send me a stamped envelope. I sent my bank details to him at 12.30 but the payment was not put through until 3.30, as 2.30 is the cut off point I probably wont have my money back until Monday when I am working at my new job 9 til 6pm, so I’m not even going to be able to go and buy a car this weekend from somewhere else now.
I have been searching for other cars and whilst searching I have come across that they have already relisted this car on the internet at 6390, 200 pounds more for a car which has been in an accident and has recently had loads of problems! I really do feel sorry for the next person they sell this dodgy car to.
