“Any reason not to pay ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by IanHamm on 28/11/2023

I have a warranty with this company and they will find any reason not to pay out . I put my car in to be repaired thinking it was a sensor that was at fault ( which are not covered) but it turned out to be the filters which are covered. But as I did it with out their permission they refuse to pay or even contribute to the repairs. I have all parts that were changed and can be inspected , but they are not interested. If I had done it the way they want the outcome would have still been the same . I will be taking this further as it’s £1,500 . DO NOT USE ANY REASON TO GET OUT OF PAYING .

I was given this warranty as a sales gimmick when I purchased a transit van . Peace of mind to ease th sale . When the van broke down 3 days later I was upset but naively thought it will be OK I'm covered, So took me a dayto arrange to be taken into a local diesel specialist garage they diagnosed injector clamp failure The warranty company said its not a mechanical part so it's not covered ! Can you believe it !! So what is a mechanical part I asked they couldn't answer. Avoid them,

“Blatant Customer service by numbers only”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Paul_K427 on 24/06/2023

Important information: their "Approved Repairers" are the cheapest garages around, i.e. ones that you would never dream of taking your pride and joy to. I actually thought I had turned up at a scrap yard but assumed that by being "Approved", some effort had gone into reviewing the garages performance but was told after the event that it is impossible to do this. I used this garage for air conditioning work (replacement compressor) which took 8 months to NOT get completed at which point my van came back to me damaged. I then took control of it myself and arranged repair which was completed in two weeks. I raised a complaint which was handled no differently to a normal claim. The investigation consisted of leaving a voicemail at the garage who never replied. At no point in my dealings with WMS was there ever any acknowledgment that this wasn't in line with their values, no 'I'm sorry this has happened' or even close. The result of this was WMS taking no responsibility for their 'Approved Repairers' and believing it was perfectly acceptable to take 8 months for a simple repair. The action taken from this is that they removed this garage from their approved repairers list so had a direct benefit to them but offered nothing to me that was of any consolation. As an aside, they won't cover air conditioning regassing, even if the repair requires it. So in my instance, the air conditioning circuit needed to be vented to replace the parts. They covered the repair but I had to pay for the gas used to make it work - WMS think it is acceptable to repair something but still leave it unusable. Ultimately, their service left me so frustrated that I gave up. I expect that is their motivation. Overall verdict - disappointed and won't be using them again.

“Sham company! Stay away!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Brian1983 on 06/04/2023

This company is sham! I had been paying around £62 a month for the full 5 start warranty on my car for last 8 months. When the car developed an issue, they removed the part from the car and sent it to their 'so called' independant speclist for inspection and diagnose. This independant specialist is a 'finace' of this sham company WMS group! So, obviously they reported that there is no fault found on the component they inspected. The car was diagonosed by 3 different garages(including manufacture specialist and the main dealer) and all 3 found the same component faulty. But, they won't accept it as their 'fiance' company found no fault. I am in a legal battle with this nightmare company. Will update here if I succeed to get anything out of it!

Take them to small claims court. I did and won. The judge ripped them apart and the quality of their warranty.

“Worst company I ever dealt with”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/10/2020

Worst company I ever dealt with. Called them about an issue with my car, being covered with 4 Star Warranty. Found a local repairer (as they said) to change the faulty part thinking that they gonna pay for it !!! At the end - paid everything with my own money, the operator from the Claim Department just telling the Manager of the local garage - "we not gonna pay for it"...End of the story

“Do not buy a warranty from this company.”

written by Scott304 on 01/07/2020

Do not buy a warranty from this company, they will do anything to not pay you. The warranty plan clearly stated that it covered McPherson struts yet when mine were damaged and needed to be replaced they refused to cover the cost. Do not buy a warranty from this company.

“AVOID ”

AVOID! Do not get cover with wms! I paid over a grand for three years warranty and unfortunately my car was in an accident (for which I was not at fault for) and written off before even a year was gone on warranty, I was refused a transfer of the remaining two and a bit years to my new car!!! I was given no reason as to why it was refused! Very poor customer service and not a way to keep customers! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Wmsgroup's Response to rachel-deeatkins's Review

Written on: 02/01/2020

Dear Rachel
Thank you for your comments. We can confirm that the Safe and Sound warranty is not transferrable. However, we did advise you that the amount you paid for the warranty would possibly be claimable against any third party involved in the accident.
While we understand this may not be the response you hoped for, it is stated in the policy terms.
If we can be of any further assistance, please call the Claims Department
Kind regards
The WMS Group

“I have previously used WMS and they were great but...”

written by Ryang216 on 11/12/2018

I have previously used WMS and they were great but recently, with my current car, every attempt to make a claim has been refused due to "wear and tear". This policy is a complete waste of money. The attitude of the customer service staff can be summed up as "computer says no".

“Doesn't cover diagnosis - Never explained or on any docs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chris878 on 23/10/2018

Avoid at all costs. They do not cover diagnosis work which I have just got a bill for without any warning or giving approval to do paid work on my car. Even if you do choose to pay for that work there is no guarantee that they will pay for the parts and based on my experience to date I have every confidence they would get out paying anything. End result have the diag for my car from a overpriced dealership and still have the issues on the car.

Wmsgroup's Response to Chris878's Review

Written on: 23/10/2018

Hi,
We have some contracts that cover diagnosis and some that do not, but it is clear in the documentation as to whether this is covered or not.
Once a diagnosis is made hopefully the fault will be covered by your policy.
Kind Regards

Yeh never pay.your policy always covers something else, but not the fault you have.if your steering is faild your electical part is not covered, your mechanical part is not covered. What other parts are in a car, electrical and mechanical.i have the 4 package which says steering is covered, but not whn its comes to claim. None of the. Is covered.if yu soeak up they will cancel your policy without refund and any notice.. so i think after a few review my policy without isn't exist anymore.. useless

Dear Valeria225
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with the WMS Group.

After looking into your recent claim further, regrettably your fault is not covered under your warranty repair agreement. You have a four star warranty repair agreement for your vehicle and unfortunately this level of agreement does not cover electric motors that are associated to the steering rack or steering column. Also oil and fluid leaks are specifically excluded from your warranty agreement, as is clearly stated in the Terms & Conditions of the agreement.

Finally I would like clarify that your policy has not been suspended and you will be able to make a claim against your warranty agreement in the future for a covered mechanical breakdown issue, if you wish to do so.

Best Wishes,
The WMS Group

They refused to pay cover our car due to 'LOW oil' which they measured after the engine exploded and the oil leaked all over the M23.

“Far from a 5 star product”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JamesHat on 19/07/2018

I had a 5 star warranty but sadly it is not a 5 star product. The water pump on my vehicle was highlighted as red during a recent main dealer service, and the mechanic noted it required replacement. No problem I thought I have a WMS 5 star warranty and water pump is listed as covered on even the more basic policies. So to my utter surprise the claim was rejected due to the pump not failing completely and it being classed as wear and tear. Strange as the water pump is not listed as a routine serviceable part in the service schedule. So perhaps if I left the pump to fail completely then it would have been covered? Well maybe not as in the terms it says I have to maintain the vehicle. No written response to my first email complaint until I chased them up. Trading standards informed as the policy is not fit for purpose. WMS have written a final response to me and saying they are unable to assist further. They are still saying the water pump is not covered as it did not fail completely. So basically leave it to fail and then go would be covered. I fancy my chances taking WMS to the small claims court. A 5 star warranty from WMS is a joke. I'm sure if this would have been an original manufacturer's warranty the claim would have been honoured... You have a warranty to cover you against unexpected repair bills. Not with WMS you don't! Be warned! Avoid!

“Purchased 5 star warranty. Worthless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Garretto on 27/06/2018

I purchased a vehicle from a reputable dealer for peace of mind and the reassurance that they were providing a warranty. When the noise started, I took the vehicle to my mechanic. He took it for a run and assessed correctly as it turns out that the gear box was failing. I did not feel comfortable to drive the vehicle after that and got it back to the dealer. They were keen to get me back on the road and were very good to me, but from the start, the feeling was that WPS won't cover the gear box as it hadn't completely failed. THIS IS WHAT REALLY GETS ME. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS BUT I WAS EXPECTED TO, UNTIL I HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN THE GEAR BOX FALLS OUT TO BE COVERED! I bet then they would say you should have come earlier. Ridiculous. Warranty is worthless. Might as well buy your car on gumtree. Dealer to be fair helped me out on his labour costs but I am still out of pocket £340. Disgusted.

Your partner purchased a used van from one of our approved dealerships, and as such it came with a used vehicle warranty. The Five Star product you received offers an excellent level of cover for mechanical breakdown and electrical failure.

You contacted our claims department to advise of a potential clutch issue on the 14th May. Four weeks later, we received a call from the supplying dealership who advised there was a gearbox noise.

Another two weeks later, we received a further call advising that the fault lay with worn bearings. This was supported by images. Wear & tear is excluded from the Five Star plan, unless added to the agreement by the dealership at the point of sale. Unfortunately this option was not included on your cover, although sensors were.

We are sorry that we were unable to help you on this occasion but if you would like to discuss the matter further, please call our claim engineers.

Kind regards,
The WMS Group

“Avoid like the plague”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Frenchie0968 on 23/02/2018

I have never had a 3rd party warranty before as i have always taken up warranties directly from manufacturers. I was offered this bunch from the independent dealer who sold me my current vehicle and boy oh boy oh boy my gut instinct was spot on. I spoke to them on Tuesday about a faulty prop shaft and was advised to take it to a garage to get the vehicle assessed and after giving the male advisor my postcode i was given the name of a garage they use even though my local mechanic whose garage is even closer and sells their products wasn’t even mentioned. The recommended garage wanted to charge me £35.70 just to assess the vehicle...really ? I cancelled my appointment and booked my local mechanic who obviously wasn’t too happy about not being recommended by WMS. My mechanic who i must add i have used for over 10 years inspected the vehicle this morning and came to the conclusion that the propshaft was failing. He contacted WMS and told them about what was found. He was then told that the matter would have to be looked into and that someone would call him back. About an hour later WMS called my mechanic to say that they wouldn’t pay out a single penny as the problem was due to wear and tear and they only covered components failure. I am no mechanic but i know that so called propshaft failure could be deadly and could potentially write off a vehicle. A worn propshaft IS classed as component failure. Propshafts don’t wear at 85,000...i’ve had driveshafts exceed 300,000 miles and still going strong. WMS are typical insurance brokers who sell policies to the car buying public via 2nd hand vehicle dealers in the hope that they won’t have to pay out should things go wrong. First time customer and as anticipated the so called policy was worded in WMS’ favour I will not recommend this company and can’t wait for their renewal phone call Poor poor poor service with policies not worth the paper they are printed on

“Massive stress to claim”

★★★☆☆

written by on 07/02/2018

Got cover for my first car but when i had to make a claim the man seemed disinterested in telling me how the procedure works and what to do. Took the car to my favourite garage where they fixed the issue then they were having problems with getting the follow up of the claim through to the person on the phone and the garage did a better job if expmaining everything to me than the person from the warranty company! Still waiting to be reembursed for what i had to pay.

“Car repair warranty”

★★★★★

written by Beck498 on 03/02/2018

Following the initial phone call, our car was booked into a local workshop as instructed. The mechanic phoned the warranty company following diagnosis of fault and a cost was agreed. I paid this on completion of the works and a check was sent to me within 3 days from the warranty company. A very prompt and efficient service. I really liked the ease of use of the warranty with the only downside being that not all the cost was covered. I would definitely purchase the warrant again.
