“Horrible company, ended up in court. We won. Avoid. ”

Written on: 17/05/2016 by plh007 (8 reviews written)

Firstly, EVERY point in this review and statement here is backed up with copies of emails, court filings and recordings.  So whatever WMS say in response it is true and court records reflect that.  What to say about WMS?  Sit back because this is a hell of a story.  Well my father in law purchased a 5 star policy from them to cover his Range Rover Sport.  He paid extra to have main dealer work undertaken should anything go wrong. 2 years into the agreement the engine was destroyed by an… Read Full Review

Called WMS group and told I had problems with clutch on my old Zafira. They told me to take it to local garage to be assessed luckily the local garage told me straight away that they will not pay for it they will tell it is wear and tear ????? I asked him Can i drive the car? replied No it's not safe I kept driving my car at a low speed on town only as the whole job cost the price of the car if i pay for it myself. few months later called them again explained that it is now worse than before… Read Full Review

Good Afternoon, We have been trying to get in contact with you through Review Centre but we are yet to hear back from you. We have seen your dissatisfied post on the review centre website, and would like to discuss this with you.
Looking at your review the initial clutch fault appears to be wear & tear rather than mechanical breakage to which you failed to have the item replaced as advise by the local garage, WMS if contacted would have advised against continuing to drive the vehicle as once the fault has been identified, it needs to be rectified regardless of it being covered or not by your Warranty/Agreement.
With regards to the part being sent in, this would be requested by WMS to confirm if the part has worn out or had failed due to mechanical breakage.

this is like telling someone you are covered by life insurance then when they die by a flu for example you tell them oh, flu is wear and tear you need to die by a cancer
you never explained this in such details in your booklet
because you don't have your own garages and your own engineers car owners have to pay for the expenses to get the part to you to check plus the repair if you don't approve it.
I just decided to fix my clutch at my own expenses to get out of this trap and carry on on my business.

“Wear and Tear”

Written on: 09/03/2016 by Barnett116 (1 review written)

Phoned WMS group when I had problems with rear suspension on my BMW 5 series. Was told to take it to local garage to be assessed and as expected received a phone call saying faulty part wasn't covered due to "wear and tear". They even had the cheek to recommend both sides of rear suspension be repaired at my expense when only one side was needed. WMS seem to be experts at spending the owner of the cars money and not their own. Cover not worth the paper it's written on and a total waste of… Read Full Review

Clutch is covered on 4*, but they only pay 60% of clutch cost and NO incidentals OR any other parts that were damaged when the clutch failed. I am looking at a £800 repair bill and WMS are only prepared to fund £345. Oh, and they pay just £45 per hour labour - that must be 1970's rates.... AND I have to fund the £340 and then pray it comes back. … Read Full Review

“DO NOT BUY”

Written on: 05/01/2016

I had a car with a turbo problem which was found by a mechanic which is an approved garage by this company. They found the issue and notified WMS of the issue. The part was sent to them for inspection and guess what, they declined the claim like majority of people with a totally different reason! The mechanic even said that what they found was definitely not the case. A video evidence was also done to prove that what they found was not the problem! Anyway, this will not end as we are taking… Read Full Review

We have requested contact details to allow us to fully investigate your concerns, so far this information has not been forthcoming. Obviously I cannot comment on your individual claim, but on all turbo claims the failed component is sent to a specialist independent turbo company who carry out a full diagnosis and report on the cause of failure and turbo condition, all claims are then subject to that report. If the claim has been rejected, the report would have confirmed that the turbo failure was not covered under the terms and conditions of the agreement.

Your turbo "specialists" are time wasters and telling you incorrect info. We've had someone to check this and is completely different to what you suggested. Turbo now fixed so ain't going to bother dealing with you again.

“ Avoid at all costs”

Written on: 07/10/2015 by 442Monaghan (1 review written)

I bought a used car with "5 star" warranty from WMS group. The maximum pay-out on the warranty contract was £750. It turned out that the a/c was broken and the absolute lowest quote that any garage would give me without original parts was £850. I was willing to pay the difference. However, when the garage called WMS, they said that, according to their "book", the maximum pay-out is £430 for a/c. At the same time, there was no garage that would do the job for that price. Avoid at all cost!… Read Full Review

Sent pump to WMS for inspection and they refused to accept this. I asked for a second opinion as per their own T&Cs and they refused. We took out. 3 year 5* warranty on recommendation of the garage on a A3 and it has been great. ( The garage owner was a freind and recommended it which gave me confidence in the product). We have made 2 claims in the period of cover and both have been paid. The machenic at the garage who did the repair stated how impressed he was with the speed WMS answered the phone and gave him authorisation for the repair. “EXCLUSIONS”

Having taken this policy out with a BMW I bought in 2015. Three months in, engine problems caused by potential fuel injectors. The 5 star policy claims to cover Engine faults, however on being told to read the exclusions list what do I discover listed? 'Fuel Injectors'. A warranty policy which claims to cover engine faults, yet do not cover parts which actually FEED the engine. Avoid unless cover wanted for an exploded engine… Read Full Review

Hi to all, I enquired about a claim process back in May 2015 regarding a failure of my engine on a BMW 2008 318i SE. This vehicle has done 50k mileage and had failed on me. I had a 4 star policy and was advised to take the vehicle to a garage and that I had to pay for a diagnostic test. I agreed and the mechanic listed the failures to me and a rough estimate of the work to be carried out. The faults ranged from gliders for the chain snapping to the camshaft being nackered; there were a few more… Read Full Review

“Poor customer service - kept waiting on hold for ages”

Written on: 18/06/2015 by 66Lancaster (1 review written)

After making a claim for a failed clutch slave Cylinder. I was this was rejected on the basis that this this was a "seal" on the slave cylinder and it's oil not on the cylinder itself. In fact it would appear that despite having a 5 Star policy no oil leaks are covered. I suspect the policy and advisors are written and briefed to never pay out. Dear WMS Group/ Providers of VERY BAD Extended Warranty Automobile products and Mechanical Breakdown insurance. I can see you are trying to "manage me" and your internet profile to appear to try to be reasonable and limit the bad publicity for your VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and FUNDAMENTALY POOR PRODUCT. Best of luck with that - perhaps you will be more successful at this than you were of actually helping a customer. Having phoned 3 times and on three different days and at different times of day and on all three occasions were put on hold then put through to the wrong department and it always took at least 10 minutes to get through to an advisor I don't think you can claim this was a certain time of day and I was just unlucky. Rather it portrays a picture of WMS Warranty Products and Services which is happy to take money but has very little real interest in servicing it's customers. I have already contacted your operatives - this isn't a complaint as such as your agent was very clear and definitive of his position on my claim. Rahter, merely a review of my experience. The claim was turned down because of an "oil leak". In experience a normal man on the street might reasonably think that when buying a mechanical breakdown insurance that one of the common types of breakdown symptoms he might endure is an oil leak. (or indeed any other fluid leak which is also excluded from your policies)) If he does your policy won't ever pay out. So I suspect that man might look elsewhere for a reputable competitor for a policy that is actually more use than the stairs were to old school Daleks. When looking at your WMS Group Warranty and Breakdown policy in detail I would suspect it's quite difficult to come up with any scenarios where you would actually pay out. So congratulations to your Lawyers and contract drafter but is does mean your products as basically useless. To point this out to all readers of the interweb was the main point of my review but thanks load of giving me the ability to comment further and I look forward to our cozy chats - although forgive me with the massive garage bill I now face that one might have reasonably thought your policy might have covered I might not be able to power my laptop for long. My policy number is WMA579482. If you change you minds and decide you will pay out on my policy after all I would love to hear from you. I probably won't phone you again until I do hear from you as I now know your hold music off by heart and strongly suspect it would be my bad luck to pick a "very busy certain time of day" when you didn't answer your phone yet again and then put me through again to the wrong department. Not of course that your call centre is massively under resourced... no never that. I was just unlucky. Just like I was unlucky to have a vehicle that actually leaked oil - presumably all the ones that leak jelly, Branston pickle or underpants were covered just fine...

Dear Sir,
We do of course have all of your details, but we would not disclose them over the internet as we are a responsible company adhering to the Data Protection Act. We have however listened to the call recording of the conversation you had with our claims engineer, and you stated that "you would write a poor review on the internet and that hopefully we would go out of business." A copy of this recording can be sent to you if required.

You have been made aware on several occasions that our policies do not cover oil leaks, unless this option was included by the dealership at the point of sale. The reason for this - as is standard across the industry - is because the cost would increase dramatically with the majority of used vehicles having a leak of some description, and such products would then become unaffordable for the majority of used vehicle buyers. In the validation letter that was sent to you, we asked you to ensure that you had read and understood the terms and conditions, and that the cover was suitable for your needs.

In respect of your other comments, we are a multi award-winning warranty provider which speaks for itself, and is backed up by our independent Reevoo rating as shown on our website.

Whilst we empathise with your case, it is with regret that we are unable to assist you further because the leak is simply not covered. If you would like to contest your claim, please contact Motor Codes who are the independent government backed body.

In respect of the communication issue you refer to, we can trace two calls that you made to our head office, both of which were diverted to our admin department as the claims engineers were all busy handling other calls, and we didn't want to leave you on hold. We have no control over who telephones us, but at peak times our lines can get very busy which is why our administration department is on hand to take the overflow calls, so we can only apologise that this was not acceptable to you. The vast majority of our customers get through without any issues, however they are various other methods you could have used to contact us such as email and live chat if you felt that our call handling was so appalling.

Our departments are fully staffed and always have been. We can only apologise that we were unable to assist you on this occasion and hope that we we can in the event of another problem occurring. If you would like to speak to our claims manager or Directors directly to discuss the issue, please let us know and we will arrange for you to be contacted on Monday morning.

Kind regards
The WMS Group

“Total waste of money”

I bought the 3 year 5 star warranty, was expecting 3 years of worry free motoring. First problem is a broken fuel injector. Guess what, its in the small print as an exclusion. “Word manipulation - appalling service”

Written on: 26/05/2015 by AmaniWade (1 review written)

My partner and I received appalling service from this company. I would highly recommend that no one buys a policy with them. After complying with the terms and conditions stipulating the requirement for a full service history and providing the best possible care for our car, they still refused to pay out ANY money when our engine failed. In order to contest their findings you would (1) need to be a mechanic in the first place or (2) shed out even more money to get a report written up with no… Read Full Review

“Don't be fooled”

Written on: 21/05/2015 by Brani (1 review written)

Just be aware that what is actually covered by this policy is not very much. Be sure to read the wording carefully as most things that can go wrong with your car will fall under wear and tear or there will be specific exclusions for the fault in question. If it is offered for free by the dealer then great, but don't bother purchasing additional cover. In my opinion, not worth the paper it's written on… Read Full Review

Hi, we are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied. Wheel bearings are covered if a component has broken or the bearing has collapsed. Noisy wheel bearings are caused by the case hardening wearing away, which is not covered unless your vehicle qualified for wear & tear cover and this option was added to the agreement at the point of sale.

If you did indeed have a valid claim and there has been an error on our part, we would like to be able get it resolved as quickly as possible for you. Please can you therefore call us asap so that we may assist you.
