Halfords will not break down the price to parts & labour and when multiple but related parts are fitted, they charge you as if they were fitting individual parts separately and that is how the charges rack up.
I had the misfortune to have a lamda sensor along with the Cat Convertor fail and they charged both items separately and it was only after the work had been done when I checked on one of their suppliers sites (Eurocarparts) and found that the labour rate being charged was in the region of £200 per hour. This is based on the part being fitted in isolation, so would the rate would be even higher as it was fitted at the same time as the CAT. The MOT offer (50%) is to get you in before they RIP you off.
