“TOLD ME BREAK SHOES NEEDED REPLACING WHICH WAS UNTRUE”

I purchased Kwick Fit car insurance which entitled me to a free MOT. My car is 5 years old and mileage is 25K, I bought it new. I added on an interim service which cost £85. They phoned me to say it needed a bulb fitting £5.95. Then they said it recommended 2 front tyres with wheel alignment as they were low nearly illegal and rear break shoes. They quoted me £148 for break shoes alone and over £320 for both jobs. I was going on holiday so decided to wait a couple of weeks until I got back. The man made me very worried as said my breaks could fail at anytime which worried me as we were driving to Gatwick for our wedding/honeymoon abroad. He said that break shoes aprox last 30k then they need changing but my car had only done 25k. I didn't even think that the break pads would not need doing, I just trusted them.

When I returned I phoned another garage to get prices for break shoes. Another garage quoted me £89 and just over £220 for both jobs so I decided to book the 2 tyres and break pads in with this other garage as saving me £100. They just phoned me to say that they have replaced 2 tyres and wheel alignment but the break shoes are fine and don't need doing. I am very angry that Kwick Fit can say a part needs fixing when it doesn't. Especially breaks as if you want something to work on your car breaks to me would be a priority.

Please do not use Kick Fit even if you have a free MOT. I think they lure you in with a free MOT then invent jobs that don't need doing. We are all busy with work and many people would of said just go ahead and do it, luckily for me I said No.

This was Kwick Fit, Cheltenham Rd, Bristol. AVOID THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just an update I went back to Kwick Fit asking for my £36 back. They blamed their previous manager who has left in the past month. I got my £36 back. If they over sale to you I advise you to go back with receipts and explain your situation in a calm manner, make sure you ask to speak to the manager.
