Had an accident in August 2011, the other driver dropped a bike off their car and we hit it - his insurers accepted liability within 24 hours. However, ever since, Tesco Insurance have dragged their heels and each time I am assured that it is all progressing and I will receive my no claims discount letter...I am still waiting for it 7 months later. I have spent hours waiting on their customer service line. All I want is for them to send me the confirmation of my no claims bonus so I can renew my insurance at a reasonable cost...instead I am still paying at least double the insurance costs because they still haven't settled the claim and do not send what the other insurers ask for. As an aside, I have dealt with Swiftcover (the other driver's insurers) and they are brilliant. They answer the phone immediately and tell you exactly what is going on. Without their help, I don't think I would have a clue what was going on. Tesco would have me believe that this is par for the course and technical hitches and the other insurers have dragged this out...not their ineffectiveness. Today they told me they have recovered the costs but an IT error means the relevant department didn't send out the letter. They've now assured me that it will be sent out in a few hours....can't be done immediately as the system has to clear....arrrgghhhhh! Don't use them if money is tight for you in any way and paying a high car insurance for a period of time will put you on the breadline....oh, and over Christmas too.
