Cancelling car insurance without telling customer

RING ANY BELLS WITH DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS?

Swinton claim letter sent when insufficient customer bank funds for one instalment. NO LETTER RECEIVED!
Swinton claim another letter sent a few days later asking for action. NO LETTER RECEIVED!
Swinton claim phone calls made to customer's mobile - number they quoted wasn't customer's! No landline phone call made to speak to customer/leave message.
Swinton claim letter sent informing customer of insurance cancellation. NO SUCH LETTER RECEIVED!
Three weeks after date of cancellation letter (Copy submitted to customer only months later after complaint), customer ordered road tax by phone successfully indicating insurance still valid.(DVLA Check)
Swinton branch staff MAY have typed letters -does NOT mean they were posted.
Police stop car for no insurance in October 2014. Swinton branch offer to re-commence old policy for £278,whilst customer with Police. Customer had only £200 in cleared funds. Swinton refused any compromise. Car seized.
After car seizure, customer goes to Swinton branch, they NOW refuse to re-commence old policy OR start a new policy.
BUT Swinton were still taking smaller amounts monthly from customer's bank, which was thought to be insurance payment reduction, after an old claim had been eventually settled.
Customer had driven for 20+ years without any insurance problem
Swinton maintain letters were sent. Why no call to phone landline? As cancellation deprives them of income, why should any bona-fide customer risk driving without insurance?
