I purchased comprehensive vehicle insurance from onecall last year (2011 - 2012). When renewal time was getting near, to avoid automatic renewal pitfalls, I contacted the renewals department to let them I wouldn't be renewing several weeks before my renewal date. Later, I used moneysupermarket to search for vehicle insurance. Onecall appeared the best valued quote with breakdown, legal expenses etc. all in for just under £160. There were a few companies with quotes in the same sort of area, but the extras swung it in onecalls favour. I purchased online, and rang the company to make sure they would except the insurance as new business. I've just received the documentation, which shows an additional charge of £25 (renewal fee). Which now makes the insurance dearer than other quoted insurances. Should I decide to cancel the insurance, even before it starts, there are additional charges for cancellations of renewals or new business regardless of the 14 day cooling off period for distance selling. I'm not too sure of the legalities regarding this practise, but it's very unsatisfactory. Needless to say I won't be using them again for any of my vehicles.
