They should make the cancellation charges clear up front and clear for the customer. I was very disappointed when I bought car insurance from Hastings Direct. There were a number of hidden clauses which the operator rattles off when selling you the policy at the speed of light, and then they hold you to all those clauses. I bought a policy and wanted to cancel it within 24 hrs but they still charged me GBP 37.50 for cancelling my policy. This is extortion and when I said that the cancellation charges were not made entirely clear to me they said that they will have to review the recorded calls and because they have a number of calls to review this might take about 7 days. This would then have allowed them to take more money off me by stating that since the policy had now started the cancellation charges are much higher. Never going to buy any insurance products from Hastings even and would recommend everybody the same.
