“Esure car insurance rip-off”

This company surely goes down as No.1 for naked profiteering. Ryanair, eat your heart out!

In August 2010, I moved from Belfast to Sussex. After checking out the cheapest quotes, I went with Esure as they undercut the rest by a couple of quid. That was my first mistake!

After a couple of months, I informed them I was opening a new bank account - and could they change the Direct Debit details accordingly. They informed me that would be £26 in "administration fees" for the privilege. I choked at this and point blank refused to pay it. I even informed them I had no problem paying the remainder of my payments by cheque. "Oh, we don't take cheques, only direct debits" they said.

Airlines, profiteers par excellence - with there billing of credit cards - at least give you a choice (ie paying by Electron card is free). Not these guys.

Anyway I stood my ground, told them I was canceling my policy and hey presto- they backed down!

However, there was a sting in the tail. I recently moved house and was told again that I had to pay £26 for - yes, "administration fees, for postage and the like". I told them I had no problem receiving this by email but again was told "we don't do emails". This time, they didn't back down and they sent me a letter telling me they were canceling my policy. Once bitten, twice shy it seems.

In closing, esure's initial quote might have convinced you to take the plunge, but when you add on the expense of any changes plus the amount of time you spend on their 0845 number, you'll be wishing you took home the bridesmaid instead.

Near enough all companys charge admin fees for ANY changes that you make and it will be stated on their documents. You should also check this before you set the policy up.

Also name anywhere which would accept cheques now days bring yourslef into this generation!?

For example if the cheque fails and you have an accident payment or no payment by law the insurer under the road traffic act would have to pay for damages to the third party as you can provide proof of insurance whether rightly paid for or not.
