This company is a disgusting, opportunistic insurance shark that prey on young drivers struggling to find cheap insurance. My brother works hard and doesn't earn much money and this company is now cancelling his insurance because he failed to act upon emails which he was unable to receive (our internet has been down for some time) and which he received no final notifications by post, only the one letter outlining that his contract was to be cancelled.
As a result of this, I have contacted watchdog in the hope that they wil take this case up and permanently blacklist this company. Below is the letter I have sent them:
'My brother, Sam Bryant, passed his driving test on the 27th April of this year. As all 18 year old males who have recently passed their test, he found it very difficult looking for affordable car insurance.
After much searching online with my mother, Clare Bryant, he found 'The Co-Operative Young Driver Insurance' which stated it awarded safe young drivers with cheap car insurance. They charged sameaproximately £700 deposit plus approximately £60 for fitting a tracking box, and agreed to charge £158 monthly on the agreement that Sam drove safely. This was monitored online.
Months have passed and Sam has paid his insurance payment on time every. He has recently received a letter stating that his insurance policy will be cancelled as he has failed to send a copy of his vehicle registration document as well as the licences of my mother, Clare, and my father, Wayne, who were named drivers on Sams Policy.
My mother and father Clare have contacted Co-op to try and rectify this problem and, to be rather frank, Co-op could not have been any less helpful. Every phone call has resulted in getting passed from one department to another before finally speaking to the manager who informed my father that there wasn't anything he could do regarding this matter as the decision had come from 'the underwriters'. My father stated that it was an honest mistake and that he could have the documentation in the post by tomorrow but was informed that the decision was final and that nothing could be done. He then refused to divulge us the company's name, stating that he was not able to.
The letter also states that Sam must now pay £90 to have the 'Smartbox' removed. Failure to do this will result in data still being transmitted which may be used for research data.
The reason why Sam himself has not contacted you is that he feels he is at a loss. He has said that he feels completely helpless in this matter and feels that he has been completely taken advantage of the fact that he falls into the most expensive insurance bracket.
After further research online, I have found another review highlighting a similar incident. We would be forever indebted to you if would investigate this matter further as this insurance company is preying on the most expensive insurance bracket and at a time when young people find it difficult earning a living and finding employment with the current economical climate. These insurance sharks must be put a stop to.'
