Last year I took out multi car insurance with Churchill including the Protected No Claims Option. In December I had a bump in my car, my fault but no claim from the other party however my car needed repairing. I was not unduly worried knowing that I had the protected no claims bonus. Moving forward to now and I have received the renewal notices. My premium was around what I expected, however my wife's premium increased by 78%. When I queried this and asked why it had increased when I had paid the premium for the protected no claims bonus, I was informed that the No claims discount had stayed the same but they had loaded the policy as I had become an added risk. They were unable to tell me what 7 years NCD equated to in terms of a percentage bonus so I was unable to work out what the premium would have been without the discount. So I assume it to be 60%, therefore I believe they raised the premium from £236 to somewhere in the region of £1050 as they quoted me £421 including the NCD for the renewal. When you take out the insurance they do say that if you claim it can increase your premiums however I believe 344% is nothing short of criminal.
