I've been very surprised at all the bad reviews! I'm a young driver (19) and have been with Admiral a year. To bring the cost down I put my Mum down as a named driver which reduced the cost £500! I went with Admiral as they gave me the second cheapest quote but was worried having read all the negative reviews.
It's time for my re-renewal and when I got a quote from Admiral I was surprised as it was £840, when on price comparison sites I was being quoted £570 by Bell, a sister company. I rang up this morning and spoke to Laura to cancel my policy when it came to re-renewal. I told her I'd had a cheaper quote from Bell which she immediately matched - great! She was lovely and very chirpy on the phone, a real pleasure to talk to.
I've only had one issue with them, where I insured my boyfriend for a week on my car and didn't get a confirmation email and when I called up they were so apologetic that they gave him 4 extra days for the days we'd missed waiting for an email.
A lot of people have been complaining about them re-renewing their policy. I've had 4 emails and a letter saying that they'll renew my policy automatically on the 13th of April unless I call them. Most insurers will do this! I've been surprised at how much they've contacted me to notify me. Either lots of people haven't had these letters, or haven't read them properly.
Overall, my suggestion is that most people only write reviews when something rubbish has happened and the company hasn't been great - very few people will write about the good experiences they have. I've found I've had excellent value for money, great service and I'm really glad I can insure with them again! Be wary of insurance companies with all rubbish reviews, but do take with a pinch of salt. I'd happily re-renew again next year.
