I have used rentalcars.com several times now, traveling in Germany, Italy and the United States. With the exception of my recent trip to Italy, I have found rentalcars.com to be useful and cost-saving. The vendors they use, excepting for Italy, met my expectations in every way. Italy, however, would be a a major exception and not because of rentalcars.com, but because of their vendor, Maggiore/Smile Rental. Through this disastrous experience, I ended up paying much more for the vehicle than I had originally expected (broken car, transportation cost to secure replacement, etc.). Rentalcars.com worked for quite some time to help me address the situation, but ultimately they were at the mercy of the vendor, a company with a long history of poor customer service and broken promises. The only complaint I have about rentalcars.com is their website does not better present the vendors one has to select from. It would be nice if on the rentalcars.com website, there was an easier way to leave a review for a vendor. I have gone to the review pages, but it is not readily discernable how toleave a review. In any case, despite not being able to get me any of my money back for the rental issues with Maggiore/Smile Rental in Venice, rentalcars.com was kind enough to offer a discount on my next rental (within 12 months). Hopefully, I'll be going somewhere that I can use it.
