I strongly recommend that you go direct to the hire company. The restrictions and service limitations imposed by Rentalcars.com means that flexibility is lost.
I found the excess reduction payment would havebeen less with the hirer.
I hired a car for several days but because of family illness my hire time need was cut. The hirers would have offered a refund for early return Rental car refused "no refunds" I was told.
I will not be back anytime soon
