Reliable but with hidden costs

Just wanted to make others aware that a car hire with insurance included is not in fact a FULL insurance but just a basic one and therefore an upgrade is required for a complete peace of mind. My Peugeot 308 has cost me £78 per week (Canary Islands) coming with free additional driver and insurance, but once picking the car up I was informed another 50eur is needed otherwise I will be legible for £250 excess and not covered for most of the major failures/accidents that can happen. Alternative was risking the damage and costly mistake or letting the company block £600 on my credit card. To be completely honest I see it as a robbery and post factum pushing the costs up. On top of that it occured that the company's pertol policy is to let you drive away with full tank that has to be paid for upfront and then it's your dilemma how to use it fully or loose a value for money with every litre left in a tank! Moreover, the price per litre has been fixed on a sky high level and for that Peugeot 308 (tank max 60L) I've paid 90eur. That is 1,5eur per litre!!!
The car was great, service good, price acceptable, but left with a bitter aftertaste...

Lesson learnt...
