The car was actually rented through AVIS, I was late arriving to collect the car but didn't think anything of it as I had paid for the rental up front on the website.
Avis had no contact details for me, no monies confirming the booking and were actually technically 'closed' when the collection time was due. Thus the car was rented elsewhere and they were closed when I arrived an hour or so after collection time.
rentalcars.com were worse than useless on teh phone saying there is nothing they can do and that everywhere would be closed now and because it was a weekend he was unable to book anything else for me. I had to go back a few days leter when they had a car available and pay again.
I am fighting to get a refund.

Good luck wit trying to get a refund! all I keep getting is emails saying I will hear within 28 days... I have had 5 of these emails so far all on different days. Also if you ring they give you the same story, I think they hope you give up.....
